DIY-Door handle removal

I know there's already has DIY by 209Z http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...r-handles.html , but had no pics of installation. So here it is:driving:

Tools Required:
Rachet&10mm socket
Flat head screw driver(for

Driver's
1. Locate& remove 2 rubber grommets.

http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure26782-2.jpg

2.unbolt the 3, 10mm bolts. 1on top hole and 2 on bottom hole.
*Be careful Screw can fall inside the door. I used magnetic screw driver*
http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure26785-5.jpg

3.pull up & out on the door handles.
http://www.the370z.com/members/bumbl...ure26786-6.jpg

4.You will see two wires. One for the Keyless entry(black wire) and other wire to physically open the door(Metal wire). Pop out 2 clips that holding the black wire and disconnect. And pop out the metal wire.

5. Driver's side done. Take 5 min brake:excited:

Passenger's

The only difference between Driver's and Passenger's is number of bolts.
Driver's has 3 10mm bolts and Passenger's has 2 10mm bolts. Other then its almost same.

All Finish!! Do whateva u want!! (Paint or Replace with others)
I swapped mine with Simot1's CF door handles. Thanks Simot!!

Nice write up :)
I might add that once you detach the Driver side handle? That both windows will automatically roll down as a safety precaution, And will have to be reset once reinstalled.

In that case, might as well at the reset procedure to this thread:

1. Turn the ignition from OFF to ON, you don't have to start the car for this. Just press the start button until it gets to the ON state, usually OFF > ACC > ON.
2. The airbag light should turn on, wait until it turns off (it should stay on for 7 secs and then turn off) and then turn the ignition to OFF within 1 second.
3. Wait more than 3 seconds after the ignition turns OFF.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3, twice. (Total 3 times)

Can you clarify this....are you saying once i remove the cover from the second hole that there's going to be 2 10mm bolts in there?

Looks awesome  I also have a magnetic black z that I want to have matching handles. Could you tell me what you used (type of paint, exact color, coats, clear etc...)?

TWYNBYZ 06-28-2011 11:29 AM

Gents,

I'm having an issue with that 2nd bolt on the drivers side door handle. Being that its to the right, I cannot get firm traction with my screw drive or socket wrench. Was there any specialized tool that you used??? I want to avoid stripping the screw......

Thanks

TWYNBYZ 06-28-2011 09:36 PM

Bump. Really could use some pointers regarding the 2nd bolt on the drivers side before I rip the door handle off........

I used a 10mm 1/4 drive short socket with an extension? I loosened the bolt just before it was totally free and used a Magnet on the extension to hold the bolt to the socket and pulled it out. I recommend you make sure you have the bolt attached to the socket when pulling it out while magnetized, this is to make sure you don't drop the 10mm bolt in the door frame. The driver side door handle has a hex head bolt that also needs to be removed its just below the door jam.

if it's the tab i think you're talking about, you just gotta yank it out...don't try to prevent damage to it 'cause it will never come out that way! Can't remember, but i think i may have pryed it a little with a screwdriver. Even so, i was still able to re-use the tab; it wasn't that damaged.

its the plate holding the black wire on to the door handle, and its the screws i cant get out

ah, the wire for the electronic door lock yes? That will remain attached to the door handle; you will need to unplug the harness which sits inside the door.

Zweb01 12-13-2011 01:19 PM

how were u able to that unplugged

the wire goes through a tab that holds it to the inside frame of the door. You have to pull that tab out of the hole, then you can get better leverage to unplug the harness. I believe the plug/harness sits right on the actual tab.

yea, that's why you have to pry it off the frame, and then unplug it.

Zweb01 12-13-2011 01:52 PM

well thanks for the help but im letting this one go

xweaponx 02-12-2012 07:51 PM

glokwork, what process did you use for painting the door handles? is that factory matched paint?

Hey xweapon, mine is magnetic black also, i took my handles to a local collision center and gave them the paint code. And the paint matches pretty good. Definitely a good move for the black Z's.

xweaponx 02-12-2012 08:50 PM

Thanks. Did you have them paint it? or did you just get the paint from them? If I remember correctly, the paint code is G41.

that sounds about right, but you can find the paint code on the sticker in the door jam. But no, i took the handles to them and had them paint it, was around $100. But i think that price will vary greatly depending where you go.
