Last night I was reattaching my door handles after I finished pairing them satin black to match the rest of the DIY painting I did this week. While installing
I dropped a bolt down the door frame and can't find it with a magnet or anything. Anybody have an suggestions? I can buy more bolts of needed but two rolling around on my door frame doesn't sound to appealing. Thanks -Ill |
^ Lol, I dropped my 10mm socket down there. I don't feel like ripping the door apart trying to find it. I haven't heard it rattle or anything so I just pretend it never happened.
|
Yeah what MJB said. Or just turn your radio up and step on the gas. That's what I always do. I've always said its not a custom mod until you have extra parts laying around.
Hell, when I had my civic I would take the dash apart all the time, somehow I ended up with more screws out of the dash than what originally came with the car. The whole dash was being held together by like 1 1/2 screws. LIKE A BAWS. Sent from my iPizzle using magic and new fangled science stuff. |
Awesome then. I was worried it would rattle and be super annoying. I'll just buy new bolts and call it good. Even if it does rattle, my Stillen G3 and Ark exhaust arrive in a few days. Doubt I'll even notice it.

you think i can just spray paint these door handles with out sanding it? or will it look cheap.

A quick addition to the DYI regarding the difficult-to-access 3rd internal bolt on the drivers door handle: don't try to remove it right away. First remove the two easy bolts, and the torx screw in the door jamb, and THEN the handle can then be pulled out and repositioned a little so that you can now get a straight shot at the 3rd internal bolt through the lower access hole, and this will make accessing that bolt much MUCH easier -- no need for flex handles, u-joints or other contortions.

Don't mean to thread necro but I did this today. Painting the handles while attached to the car is also a simple and viable option. First slide note cards under handles and tape them off. Next, wrap about 3 feet around in magazine or newspaper. then put a rudimentary "blast shield" on just to catch any paint blown by the wind. Easy as cake.

what'd you paint it with though?
|
Problem!! Cant get the blue clip off that is for the button to unlock it. My hand barrely fits back there and i dont have a grip to pull it off. Is it clipped in there with tabs or i just pull hard on it?
|
i took apart the back of my handles abit b4 i painted them. mainly the black plastic gasket and to take the button off. ill give warning to anyone... everyone of those lil screws contain a hefty amount of locktite.
of the 6 screws that i took off... 4 of them got completly stripped, one of them i couldn't even get off.. i ended up twisting the plate that holds the button down off and ripping the screw out (apoxy was need'd to fix it back in). went to the home depot and bought new screws. there metric size m4 machine screws for anyone who has done something similar and needs them replaced. http://www.the370z.com/members/urdel...ndles-done.jpg |
What is the best paint for the door handles?
I just picked up my 370 yesterday and I like the look of the black door handles. Even CF has a nice look to it.

Sorry I kind of forgot about this thread haha but to answer your question it was simple krylon. I did a once over with a self etching primer then about 3 coats of black gloss and probably 4 clear coats. Still looks great and in the name of science I went through a power touchless car wash. No issue withstanding the high pressure.

When it says to "pop out the two clips holding the black wire" do you mean take out the two small screws that are on the actual handle? one of those screws on my handles are stripped so there really isn't any way that I can take them out.
Someone please help me, I have an appointment to get these painted on Friday but I can't seem to disconnect the black wire. I found the two clips on the inside of the door frame, but no matter how hard I pull on them the first clip won't come free. How do I get it loose? |

could do it i'm sure, but talk about a waste of money and carbon fiber...:ugh2:

I noticed a ton of people saying they had issues with removing the drivers side handle due to the hard to reach screw... Solution is don't remove that screw! Remove the hex head screw on the door.
So in short 2 bolts for both handles drivers side remove hex head screw on door that is the only difference... |

I'm at the point where I'm needing to disconnect the blue harness. Do I need to pull the entire harness free from the door frame first before disconnecting? I can barely get my hands in there and just wondering if it can come off the frame first so i can unplug the harness easier.

Well after messing with it for some time, I was able to get it loose from the frame. However disconnecting the harness is another issue. Having lots of trouble trying to unplug. I tried to remove the screws, that hold the back plate for the electronic push button lock, but basically started to strip them as an alternate to disconnecting the harness. Feel like I'm destroying my thumb trying to push the square tab down to release the harness. Anyone have any tips or tricks to release?

Hey guys/girls
I need to know the name and size of the sleeve that these two 4m screws sit in. I was doing this last night and had to call a buddy over cuz these two screws were being particularly nasty on the driver's side. We ended up stripping one, drill bitting and extracting them...long story short, one was salvageable, one was not...I know from these threads that the screws are 4m and should be carried at a Home Depot or similar store, but nobody can advise what the sleeve that the screw sits in is called, or where I can find one. I'd love an answer ASAP, as I'm having these painted in the AM and I'd love to reinstall right away. Thanks!! |
Does anybody know the size of the little screws?

If anyone stripped them like I did I took a hacksaw and made a straight line across then simply used a flathead and they came out. |
I think I got a little carried away with my door handle paint project!
http://www.the370z.com/members/hocke...way-easier.jpg I also used tape rolled up (sticky side out) to help ensure I didn't drop the screws inside the door! Worked Great! http://www.the370z.com/members/hocke...nto-door-1.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/hocke...nto-door-2.jpg |
Yeah those two little screws were stupid. It has blue loctite on the threads and the head strips with barely any force.

#6-1/2" is the what I ended up using. |
Fawk. I dropped the metal piece that holds the keyless button on the handle into the door frame. Anybody know if it is possible to purchase that bracket?

As an example, here is something similar to what I used: http://www.harborfreight.com/18-inch...l#.UzMUEFcVfxg |
I got it out eventually. I had the telescoping magnet but the piece somehow wedged itself at the very bottom and I had to use a makeshift metal hanger to somewhat pry it out.
