Default DIY: Sport Spoiler Removal

Figured I'd make a thread since a lot of people break theirs removing it.

Step 1: Remove plastic cover in hatch. (Steps 1-6 in link below)

DIY: Weight reduction/Fix hatch not opening issue

Step 2: Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts holding the spoiler in. They are in the same hole and same horizontal plane, one is facing forward and the other back.

Step 3: Use fishing line to cut the end of the double sided tape. Slide it under and start moving it back and forth. You may need to use something to prop the spoiler up a fraction of an inch as you get closer to the inside. You only need to cut it this way a little past where the spoiler base dips in. Cut both sides.

Step 4:Pry up one of the ends with something (I used a couple of these Amazon.com : Pedro's Bicycle Tire Lever (Pair) : Bike Hand Tools : Sports & Outdoors) and use a knife or utility blade to start working toward the middle cutting the double sided tape. Don't lift very much, just enough to cut the tape and move on. You can start popping the clips out as you move across, but don't lift it any more than a hand width up until all the clips are popped and tape cut.

Step 5: Once all the tape is cut, start working the spoiler straight up from the body. I started at one end and slid my hand under and worked it across to pop the remaining clips after step 4.

There are 2 different clips on the ends. Notice the tape pattern you will need to cut.

Step 6: Clean it up and move on with your life.

JARblue, cooltoy, Zbrah and 7 others like this.
