DIY: Chin Spoiler Removal

So, as some of you know, I ripped the drivers side of my chin spoiler off last weekend, and have been driving around with it "taped" up until I could find the time to do something about it.

Tools you'll need:

1/4" drill bit
10mm hex socket
pliers
flat head screwdriver

Step 1: Jack up the front of the car...

Step 2: Drop the lower engine shroud
Use the flat head top pop out the rivets (green circles). Use the 10mm socket to remove the 12 screws (red circles).

Step 3: Remove the rivets holding the chin spoiler
Using the pliers, grab the top of the rivet on the inside of the bumper (picture 1: red circle). Now, use the drill with 1/4" bit to start tapping into the rivet's head (picture 2: red circle). Once the bit grabs into the head, it will actually just twist the head of the rivet off of the stem. At this point, just push the stem up through the bumper and move on to the next one.

Step 4: Drop the car, and admire your handy work!

Thanks for the DIY. But, your jackstands scare me.

Whaa? Why? They're 3ton a piece and fit the Jack points perfectly! (I'm assuming you don't like the aggressive angle that my car is at??)

The base just looks very narrow and I would worry about that pin shearing. No biggie. Sorry to take the attention from the thread topic. +rep

It's all good! No worries! The bases are a little small, but the kit's rated at 6 tons for my old truck, so hopefully it doesn't kill me :P

Did this over the weekend - one tip...make sure you fully charge your drill LOL I didn't plan on removing mine this weekend, but I had the car up on jack stands to do tranny/diff/engine oil changes, so figured I might as well drill the rivets out. My battery died after the first rivet. Not wanting to sit idle while it charged, I grabbed a set of pliers and and flathead, and manually broke off each rivet. Took me a good 30min or so I estimate, but I got it done, no damage to the oem chin spoiler and mounted on my new front lip!
