Silver bezel gets removed first and then the shifter boot gets removed. Remove the two screws that hold the center panel pull forward and you should be able to reach the start button. hope that helps

You are welcome. If you look at Triple's picture above it's the screw right below where the screw is that is being removed. In the picture the upper screw for the knee pad has already been removed, however, you can see the mounting point. The mounting point sticks out from the base of the console.

For further clarification, the screw that is being removed in the picture is the one that attaches the bottom of the center console trim to the center stack.

Just got mine in the mail, can't wait to put it in. Red button on a red car. It should have come from the dealer like that.

tanamerra 12-13-2010 06:20 PM

Zpirate.
The knee pad screws on the side are the ones that are giving me trouble. Really on tight. Thanks for the clarification on the other one.

Awesome write up! Thanks for taking the time to do it. Also found this to be helpful in locating the 2 screws holding the knee pad in place http://www.activetechdesigns.com/downloads/z.pdf thanks again!

Does it light up like the white button? I kind of like how it does that... like is it as easy to find in the dark?

kenchan 02-07-2011 10:38 AM

The start/stop letters are back-lit as well. It looks good at night. In direct sunlight it looks like dark red-ish, with slight burnt orange.

Did you pay extra to make it hairy?

:D +1 for more illumination description. I do like how the stock button completely lights up (the whole button is made of translucent plastic or something)

Because the red button makes your Z look like a 1992 Miata!

"Me Too!" post.
For $40, why not a red button?
You can also see my simota1 fuel gauge overlay in this pic.

adampetrasek 04-07-2011 01:18 AM

Installed the Red button when adding the iSimple iPod Gateway to the Bose Stereo, took no time at all. Looks amazing, and really helps to accent the red interior or the 40th Anniversary!!

+1

I'm sorry guys for the noob question that follows, this is my first car and first time even attempting to do any sort of mod by myself so I ask: Do you have to disconnect the battery before doing so?

My brother's is just sitting in his car, I'm sure he could part with it. What would you want to do with it?

just finished the install. Thanks Trips for the writeup/pics

i have heard you can install the starter buttons on a 07-08 350z but it takes a 170 buck wiring harness to do it. Not really sure on this, just what my buddy told me when he asked if he could have my old button.....

2011 Compatible??

Does anyone know if this part is compatible with the 2011 model? I would really like install it if it is! I searched the forum but can't seem to find any info.. Also, if it is are there any warrantee issues to be concerned about?

It's compatible and if the switch fails you have the original to replace it with? warranty won't cover it since it's not the original part for that model. Have at it :)
