Here is quick run down on how to get that dirty polished metal back to a mirror finish.

My FI CBX was stained black due to no cats.. Mew MEW... lol.. Everytie I washed my car, I would wash the pipes too. The only problem is that the black on the tips would never scrub clean. They stayed black. After many many miles of Vroom Sppphhhh!!! My FI CBX tips have gone though so many shades of black that I had to do something about it.

Here is a quick and fast step by step on how to get that Polished luster back. I had finished polishing my FI CBX before I took any pictures. My brother asked if I would polish his Exhaust back to life so these pics are of his exhaust. I did the same exact thing other then having to use the stool wool longer on my tips since they were uber dirty.

Here are the team players minus sand paper.

1-cone cloth polish bit. I suggest buying the biggest one you can find. The biggest one I was able to find was a like 3'' long and 2'' diameter for $5 or so.
2-Drill
3-water and car wash soap. You can use a bowl, bucket or whatever. I happen to have a spray bottle so I used it.
4-steel wool grit 0000
5-metal polish paste
6-sand paper probably 220 grit

Here is the exhaust tip before I did some cleaning and polishing.

The first step is to clean the pipe with soap and water to rib of the big dirt/dust particles. You don't wan that stuff gouging up your pips as polish it.
At this time, inspect the pipe for rough areas. My brother has scraped his exhaust going up a ramp or some kind so the back bottom edge was verry jaggered and rough. Use you sand paper and smooth out the jaggered edged. You don't have to make it perfectly flat or rounded. You are just trying to smooth it out so that it wont snag your steel wool or polish pad/cone/wheel. Sorry, I don't have a pic of this buy it's easy enough to do w/o pics.

The next step is to use some more of that soap/water solution and steel wool. You want wet the pipe and sand it with the wool. This will rid of all the big stains and grime on the pipe. Keep the area wet so that dirt and junk keeps dripping off and not puddling in the pipe. No need to rub the grim back into the surface your trying to clean.

As you can see in the picture able, it's already looking a lot better but still not a mirror. Once you get the junk off clean the pipe down once more and dry it with a towel. Since my polishing cone was new and not loaded with polish. I decided to apply a layer of polishing cream onto the pipe itself. It was also getting dark so I was not able to see too well.

Once applied, go to town with the polishing cone or wheel. I suggest using a corded drill but I used what I had. Why corded? I just like the power..

I went and polished the inside of the pipe, then applied a 2nd film of polish and hit it again with the cone.

Once done the pipe will still look dull but have no fear. Gram a nice clean cloth in my case a old sock that I no longer used (it's clean) and hand polish the pipe. A few wipes with the sock is all it took to make her shine.

It's a lot more reflective and shiny in real life. It was dark out and hard to get a good pic with out glare from the flash on my crappy phone but you go the idea. The finished product is many many times better then what we started with.

Enjoy

Good result.

Another good option is Never Dull. It will get rid of the black crud without using steel wool.
