LOL thanks, Its been installed for about 2 weeks now. |
Factory Switch alone??
Hi I have to bring this up again because I am still looking!! Has anybody managed to get the factory-"orange" lighted switch alone??
Where can I purchase just the switch?? (I don't need the harness) Thanks! |
I'm guessing Nissan. It came wrapped by its self in one of those Nissan bags. Sorry I dont have the Part# that was on the bag.

Woohoo! Installed mine today. Can't wait for crappy weather to use it. :icon17:
Has anybody swapped out the stock bulb for LED? I don't know if it would be too obnoxious. The stock is extremely bright, didn't know if the LED was overkill or not. |

Help me understand something please.
I'm confused, on 370Z's that come with the rear fog light, is the switch on the steering column or in the console? |
I use mine all the time. My friends call it my Caboose light.
|
Has anyone had any issues with the light not working when tapping the yellow line? I installed mine and it was working fine until one night when I flicked it on and heard a slight and short buzz from under the console where the relay is secured. The light in the switch went out and the rear fog isn't coming on. When the car has been off for a few minutes, something resets and the light in the switch comes back on when I turn the car on. I've checked the bulb so that's fine. Is there a method or diagram that I could follow with some Radio Shack parts that would replace the relay? I want to keep using the switch and harness (since it was $150 when I got it!!) but I don't want to shell out over $30 to the dealer for a replacement relay that could end up doing the same thing....Any thoughts/ideas appreciated!
|
Mine is hooked up to the yellow wire. No problems so far. I'm no electrician but maybe its the relay that is faulty and a replacement from the dealer would do the trick. If it blows again just return it.
|
Just put the light in and it's not bad at all. I got away with just pulling out the push-grommet that faces the ground. I left the black metal bracket in place rather than removing the other 3 grommets. As for the two nuts holding the light in place, they came out with a ratchet wrench alone...no sweat, tears, WD40, or torching. New light went in smoothly.

Has anyone figured out how to make a custom switch that toggles the BCS directly? The car is already setup to power and control the lamp...there has to be a way to just wire a switch to the rear fog circuit of the BCS.
|
Sorry to sound like a jerk.. but what exactly is the point in this light? In most pictures, it doesn't seem to match the taillight colors, which is odd.

Its a rear fog light. As simple as that. Makes your car easier to see in bad weather from behind. |

The whole thing just seems odd to me... and the fact that the overseas models have it but not the US. Is it even legal? |

From Wikipedia: I guess the mentality in the states towards driving in weather is like the difference between NASCAR and Formula 1. |

As far as legality, I can't answer that question. But I'm pretty sure cops will APPRECIATE your effort on keeping the highways/road accident free by using your fog light. :) |

I guess I'd have to see one in person to fully appreciate it. |
Steering column assembly..?
I just installed my fog light from theZstore. Problem is..cant turn it on. Now im looking to get the steering column but no one on here has mentioned where to find a left driver side steering column. Only mention the one they carry on courtesyparts(the reversed steering column). Anybody with an answer or recommendations?

theZstore didn't have the harness and center console switch available when you ordered? This fits in the blank between the seat heater switches looks really nice and factory and illuminates. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't indicate an on or off status, but oh well. Otherwise, you can get a generic rocker switch from Radio Shack and wire that up to your light. |
AK and those who have done this install: Any trick to fishing the wires from the trunk through the armrest?
Thanks! |
If you take out the carpet and foam and all right behind the cross bar you can shoot a hanger straight down the armrest.

Update: I figured I would remove the old dummy lens in anticipation of receiving the new one. Holy crap! You guys weren't kidding about those bolts! There was no removing them with a ratchet. I ended up using a combination to techniques I picked up on this (and the other) foglight install thread. I used a dremmel to get one nut off, and ended up melting the plastic on the other, pulling the bolt right through (I'm sure I can cover the hole with a large washer). All this took me over an hour. Ridiculous! I have the factory harness/plug on my 2009. Not sure what to do with that... Anyway, I put the old lens back in (put a long sheetroack screw in throught the bottom hole for the black metal backing plate) so it doesn't look stupid. The tips on this thread have been very, very helpful! |

I wired my system up to give me three options. Always off, always on, or flash with reverse and light with brakes. As such I used a three way switch and not the fog light switch and harness from the Z store.

http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...l-console.html The website he lists has the switches in a lot of different forms. Two way on/off. Two way momentary. Three way on/off, etc. Just pick the one you need. Also for reference here is my DIY which shows how I wired my light. http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...-override.html |
CBRich I've read your thread and learned a lot from it. Personally, I don't like the look of the rocker switch when it is placed between the touring heated seat OEM switches. But I am following your wiring ideas closely. I still haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do switch-wise, but your information has been helpful!

Anybody know how I might should wire this switch so the "low" on activate the light? (I might use the "high" side of the switch for something else). Thanks:tiphat: |
Sorry for the double post! I ended up using an extra hazard switch for my fog light. I think I figured out the wiring for the heated switch if someone wanted to use that (with the help of some of the guys over in the Audio part of the forum).

Has any one tried
Has any one tried just drilling a large hole in the face of the dummy light to get access to the other side of the bolt?

Just ordered the rear fog light from thezstore.com...The only function I want the light to serve is another brake light. If I were to just tap the appropriate color wire in the tail, I should be good to go right?
Also, does the turn signal for that tail light run off a seperate hot wire? because I do not want the light to flash when I put turn signal on obv. Thanks for any input. |

Thanks for confirmation ^^^^^^
Got the rear fog installed tonight...those two spinning nuts caused me a huge headache, but with some applied heat...came spinning right off. I went with the option to just tie it into the brake light (green wire) and im very satisfied with the look. Attached some quick crappy pictures I was able to get tonight. |
