Default Quick question about microfiber cloths

Ive been using the multi colored walmart 5 or 10 pack microfiber cloths and I think they are very low in quality. Meaning they have too much polyester. If I press a little firmly on the paint it micro mars the clearcoat. I wouldnt mind replacing my whole collection with Cobra but lack of stock and price is an off putter.

What sort of specs should i be looking for when buying microfibre cloths? I used to use the meguires ones on my previous cars, they were okay.

These are the ones I am talking about. Garbage me thinks..

I think I remember Junkman2008 covering MF cloths in one of his videos.

Yes, those are garbage, Limey. For someone as anal about your vehicle as you are, I would have expected you be much more knowledgeable about detailing Check out the link SouthArk provided for Junkman's videos.

AFAIK Junkman only recommends the Eagle Edgeless (blue or orange) towels you can find at The Rag Company website. If you want to know whether a towel will mar your clear coat, drag it over your open palm. If it catches on your skin at all, don't use it on your paint. Junkman does not recommend using towels for drying.

Its old age fella, I am slacking I use waffle weave to dry however.

Thanks for the micro fibre towel test tip.

I tried one of those plush blue Costco micro fiber towels, they left so much damn lint on the car. Hopefully the Eagle ones are not like that.?

Try the hand drag test with your waffle weave towels. They won't grab as much as the garbage towels, but you'll still notice some fibers catching. This test and Junkman's drying video was what triggered me to start using a leaf blower instead of towels to dry. I go back with the waffle weave after most of the water is blown off - at this point I am drying mostly trim and hardly touching the paint at all with the towel.

Thank Junkman. It's his tip. It's probably in that video he linked lol

Yeah lint is an immediate indicator that those are not quality towels. When you finally get a hold of some nice towels, you will undoubtedly notice their quality compared to your old towels. The Eagle towels will never leave any lint behind.

Even the eagle towels leave lint. Wash the towel before use.

Different people have different experiences. I never wash mine before use and have never had a lint issue. A better suggestion would be to TEST before use.

With crappier towels, I experience various levels of lint. Some need a first wash then don't lint and some leave lint regardless. With the Eagle towels, I have never seen them lint when using them on my paint. I found they will lint if used to wipe certain pieces of trim (rubber mainly), but this is damaging to the towel so I don't do it.

Yeah. Just my personal experience. I first noticed it when I was using it to wipe wax off my car and it was leaving little bits of fluff around. They don't do it after a wash so I just make a habit of giving new MF towels a rinse and dry before I put them to work.

+1 on the Eagle Edgeless. Great towels at a great price. I have had no issues with lint on mine. I see some lint when washing and drying the towels in the laundry but it is very minimal. Make sure you follow the Junkman's video tips on caring for your towels too. If you don't take care of nice towels they will turn into crap towels and scratch your paint all the same as the cheapo ones.

Funny thing is those el cheapo Walmart ones I posted image of earlier dont leave any lint behind, but the plush blue Costco ones do, and they have been washed many times. After trying those a couple of times I placed them in the misc cleaning section, meaning I use it for other areas not the bodywork.

I will definately try the Eagle edgeless ones. Maybe 3 of each color mentioned earlier.
