you can take it through those automatic washes for ~$3-4, they work pretty well and you don't have to get out of your car

Lol!

The touchless ones that JUST use water pressure aren't bad. They won't get all the really stuck on grime off your car, but it's touchless!
If you DO go that route, please make sure they don't use the roller things to pull your car through, you'll FOR SURE ruin your wheels... They make some that laser scan your car and wash based off size, find one of those

In between the detailing I do 1-2 a year, I take my Z to a locally owned/operated branch of an auto rental place. They have a nice bay that they use for cleaning the rentals. They clean it the way I want it done (no harsh chemicals, change wash mitts often, no "perfume" in the cabin, &c). I can get a Q&D wash, wax, and vacuum for $25-40 and a more through cleaning for $50-60 (price depends on how dirty it is and how much dog hair is in the cabin). Considering that I haul my AU Cattle Dog around a lot and she is constantly shedding hair, I think I'm getting a great deal. If I can't make it to their shop, I'll go to a high-pressure washer and knock the big stuff off until I can get it done right.

So the only reason you're taking it somewhere is you don't know how to DIY washing a car? Time to learn.

I have to say, I agree with Chuck above. You have a Z? Now is the time to learn how to properly wash a car yourself. (Took that advice myself; and now I have my winter beater to work on improving since I was not kind to the paint the past 10 years...)

Have to run off to a meeting, but I would say watch Junkman's videos. Watch the AmmoNYC YouTube channel videos. Watch stuff over at Adam's. Find a drive-in-and-spray-yourself wash place that you feel comfortable with and has decent tools. (Just don't ever use their brushes; if nothing else, just spray down and go.)

Also, I'm sure you have a local detailing supplies store somewhere. They'll always help ya out with questions.
