Agreed. Proper use is key - don't do the "grind the dust into your paint" method you see a lot of people use at car shows.... thats whats given it such a bad wrap - improper use.

Any wiping of the paint after the fact, go VERY liberal on the spray (waterless wash is my recommendation) and wipe in one continuous motion from one end of the panel to another, then flip the towel to a new side and repeat. Never use the same part of the towel twice, and never, ever, ever do circular or back/forth wiping with a dirty towel or dirty surface.
