You've gotta read up on tire/wheel size

kirakira 07-11-2014 12:26 PM

Basically for winter tires, I'm assuming my rims and the actual wheels will have to be changed from the current stock ones right..?

So I read in this topic that 18 inch rims and I guess some type of wheel is needed...Which one has been the most effective for you guys? We all live in Toronto, so I hope our end results will be similar lol.

You are correct, wheels have to be changed to 18's if you don't already have them.

What people are talking about when they say: 235/45/18

235 is the width of the tire
45 is the profile (height of the side wall)
18 wheel size

Just get steelies for winter driving.

zefaulter 07-11-2014 12:43 PM

Steelies will work Only if you put spacers otherwise it won't clear brakes. Also, looks shitty.
I bought msr wheels, they're fairly cheap

MrSir 07-11-2014 01:45 PM

The numbers refer to the width of the tires in milimeters

Can you tell me which RIMs can be used with the 370z without having to do anything to the breaks? I'm not looking for anything expensive or fancy since it's winter time after all...

Thank you

kirakira 07-24-2014 08:34 AM

In general, do small potholes and bumps damage the car in any way? I'm driving down don mills road south to go to work and back up after work and there are really small pot holes, nothing too serious but I'm afraid in the long run, something will break...

Wheels guys would know more about this. But in general it all depends on the type of rim, the design, spoke style, material thickness, etc..

Depending on what you buy, the rim specs to clear your brakes will vary.

Pot holes and bumps are sometimes hard to avoid. Crazy people like me will take a mental note and plan a route around sections that have pot holes.

Any pot holes is never good for the car, but this is Canada. We are going to have them all year round. treat it as wear and tear.

Anyone have any experience having minor car scratches fixed?

I got a few light scratches, but deeper than the top protective layer, but paint still fine. Just curious on how people tend to these things if they're semi anal about their car like me lol..

Ask Junkman. Attach photos of the scratch. You should post this in the detailing/appearance forum. Not likely to get as good a play here.

Here's your thread. http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...eys/yesnod.gif

Does anyone's 370z have a weird thumping sound when going from parked gear to any other gear?

I've always thought my car was too new so it hasnt been worn in yet...Not sure anymore.

kirakira 09-15-2014 10:03 AM

I'm planning on getting winter tires and rims before the month ends. Looking at Blizzak LM 25 RFT 225/50/R18 or the LM 32 225/50/R18.

Any opinions on these tires? Also any good looking but not too expensive rims that would fit these tires?

And is there anything special I need to do for the rim and tires? Or can i just replace my current sport rims/tires for these winter ones without any problems.

Thanks again....Winter is coming....

That's a Mazda thing... I've never had a Mazda but I know people who have and they all complain about rust.

Kira, why did you change your mind again?

kirakira 09-15-2014 04:45 PM

Tbh, originally when I first bought the car, I had the "Must protect my baby from EVERYTHING" mentality.

After driving it and falling in love with the car even more, I realized, the car is a tool for me to get from home to work efficiently. If I were to garage the car for the winter, I would miss the car in the winter. I'd rather drive the car, enjoy it, and in the future, replace it with the new Z.

Also...TTC sucks. I drive down don mills south because DVP is ****....TTC on don mills south is **** too...rather drive..

Look for wheels from a 350Z with the big brakes, "track edition" that's what I did for winter...the only thing is if you want to put the air pressure sensors in, I didn't bother so the warning light stays on for the winter.

I used to take TTC route 25 for years... I may actually move back to the area, we'll see

Depends on the winter, of course, but around here there would be nothing enjoyable about driving a high-performance rear-wheel drive sports car with manual transmission and 4 inches of ground clearance in the winter, and spending $500+ to do so. The car's a blast when driven in it's optimal environment, but winter ain't it.

I recognize that not everyone can afford a winter DD and they have to drive their Z year round, but I've had a lot of Z cars over the last 35 years and no one can convince me that they're more fun (or more practical) in a Minnesota winter than my good old 4x4 GMC Sierra. My 370Z in the winter does what it's best at when there's snow and ice on the street -- it sits in the garage.

I'm sorta the opposite, my truck stays in the garage for the winter, i find the car fun to drive in the winter.

no... that's a salt on any kind of metal thing... but to each their own... there are no right or wrong answers as to whether to drive your z in the winter or not... i choose not to due to wanting to keep it as nice as possible for as long as possible... do i miss driving zeus... of course... but it makes the time i have with him that much more enjoyable... it also helps that my dd is a very nice ride too :tiphat:

speaking from experience I got dinged by a boulder (okay a bit exagerated) that cracked my windshield and chipped my roof. The chip went to the metal and in less than a week rust started developing. I have an appointment at the shop to replace my windshield + fix the ding but if rust started appearing in less than a week I can only imagine how fast it will happen when the salt hits the ground...

On another note TTC = Take The Car. I rather sit in traffic in MY car than be sardine-style crammed in the subway, RT then bus... (disclosure: I live in the north end of Scarberia)
