How many miles on the car and can you post pics of the tread wear? Your toe might be off.

Uneven as in, different from left to right, or uneven as in more wear on the inside or outside of the tires?

I'll admit I'm not that familiar with the Z's peculiarities as of yet but, if the insides of the tires are wearing then that is normal for a car that has a little negative camber in the rear (which is fairly common on IRS for "sporty" cars) that doesn't see a little hard cornering. You drive on the insides of the tires and that wears them out (and if you "peel out" a little, even more so) and they usually get evened out by hitting some corners and getting the car to lean a little. But if you drive mostly highway miles and have some negative camber, the insides of the tires WILL wear out first.

If it's the outsides, then I'd guess you drive in circles a lot.

So, it could be totally normal... I'd echo what 370zFORme!! asked as far as mileage and at least a better description of "uneven." Has the car been in any sort of accident, bumped a curb cutting a corner too close, etc.?

First off thx for the help.Yes all the wear is to the inside on both tires.the car has 16k miles on it,no wrecks or curb jumping. If thats natural wear for these cars then I won't worry about it because looking at the tires it looks like both tires are pretty much wearing the same.I will take a pic for reference to get opinions anyway.

I think it's normal. My rear tires need to be replaced right now, and from inner to outer the tread depth is about 2/32" 2.5/32" 3/32".

At 16K miles these kind of tires (summer performance) will show some wear and if you are mostly doing highway miles and maybe the occasional "enthusiastic start" I would totally expect the insides to be more worn than the outsides.

I won't claim to be the final word but it sure sounds normal to me.

That's the bad thing about grippy tires, they don't last that many miles.

I know this is a old thread but I'm goind to bring it back to life. My boy friend pulled the rear wheels off his Z to clean them and get the car ready for winter storage. When he pulled the rear wheels off we noticed very excessive ware on the indide of the tires compared to the outside of the tires. They were so worn out on the insides that one had part of the belt showing and both looked liked slicks. The middle to the outside of the tire was worn pretty good but not to the point that he would have to get tires right away. The car just hit 16k and has had no accidents or any contact with anything. Oh and all suspension is stock. What do you guys think?

Is your z droped? Does it have spacers?if so then you might need camber arms and an alignment. Unless if you are pulling massive burnouts that sounds excessive .

I think your boyfriend needs to check his tread depth more often.

16K of enthusiastic driving = one toasted set of rear tires. Even just cruising that many miles, they'll be pretty worn out.

You always need to check your tires a lot. Reguardless that I track my car I always get an alignment every six months. But I only recommend that to people that are lowered. But even if your not I'd still have it checked out yearly. And make you check the tires very often.

The Z ships with summer performance tires. These Bridgestones or Yokohamas are made to grip well, not last long.

15k on a set of rears is normal. You may be able to stretch it a *bit* past 20 with all highway use.

The fronts can last a little north of 30 with highway use.

When replacing these tires, look at the treadwear rating of the tires you own, then compare it with the rating of others that are available. The higher treadwear tires may not grip as well, but you'll get more mileage out of them (and, they'll most likely be a bit cheaper).

crap, i would be very happy if i could get 16K out of summer tires. usually only lasts me 8-10K tops.

and yes, with the toe angles these car use and the neg camber, it's normal for the inner treads to wear faster than outer. if you use non-reinforced asymetic tires then it will wear even faster on the inner treads.

hey guys couple things. there are no suspention mods including springs or spaces. We also arent concerned that the tires are worn after this many miles. that is understandable but you guys are saying its ok for the tread to be that un even? maybe its just me but i dont think any tires should wear like that. let alone cutting down the life span but just from the safety aspect. i mean he dose do some "spirited" driving but nothing crazy 1 maybe 2 burn outs and a few runs on the dragon. if u guys have seen the same thing then i wont bust nissans balls for new tires hahahaha thanks for the help :-)

I thought the stock setup had some negative camber. Not 100% sure though. Not enough for excessive wear, but might be more evident with higher milage. I think it's normal. 16k miles with some burn outs and spirited runs is pretty good for the stock Potenzas.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure stock has some negative camber and was just about to say that when I was reading through the posts. I've got 20k miles on my stockers and aren't worn nearly that bad.
