Stuck coilover lower body

Anyone got any tips to remove the coilover lower mount? It’s stuck/seized to the threaded shock body. Don’t want to clamp on the threads to break it loose and damage

Default Stuck coilover lower body

Anyone got any tips to remove the coilover lower mount? It’s stuck/seized to the threaded shock body. Don’t want to clamp on the threads to break it loose and damage the threads in the process.

Seems like a couple rounds of PB Blaster and a bit of heat will be my best tools in this situation.

Are you attempting to rotate the threaded body by hand? You should be able to secure the lower mount in a vise and use two locking collars together to turn the threaded body using a spanner wrench.

This is on a divorced coilover setup so there aren’t 2 locking collars to use to turn the threaded body. Just the 1 locking collar to tighten against the lower mount. the BC threaded shock body doesn’t have any feature to clamp on to while I try and rotate the lower mount off.

Though it might be a PITA, you can remove the other rear shock and use that locking collar with first locking collar to turn the threaded body. Clamp the lower mount in a vise or stick a bolt through the mounting ears and clamp that in the vise so the mount doesn't rotate when you try and spin the threaded body.

Well on the other rear shock, it’s the lock collar that is seized… just my luck. Time to get a torch…

So I got the lock ring off the other shock and used it to resist rotation while I tried to twist off the lower body. No luck… ughhhh

Going to keep it sitting with PB blaster and resort to the torch eventually if need be. Not in a rush to reassemble the rear though since the car is garages for winter.

Need to order another rear damper anyway since the top hat is fused on and I cannot replace the bump stop
