If he could afford 2k, sure that would be great, but if he is looking at springs only, I'm sure $$ is an issue - so he really needs advice on affordable coilovers. There are roughly 5 brands in the 1k range, and I am presuming this price range would work for him. If $$ is not the case, then I stand corrected.
