Default Power Stop track day pads

In search of a good first-timer dedicated track pad, I came across the Power Stop "track day" and "track day spec" pads. Everyone loves them... Everyone. The only negative anyone thing that anyone ever mentions is dust, which should be expected. I've even done searches like "power stop track day pads suck" and come up with nothing. I've not seen one review saying they fade. It's been a long time since I've seen such one-sided positive reviews for a product. They're $76 & $65 for F/R at Rock Auto. Does anyone here have any personal experience with them?

I used their street pads on a charger srt 392, I think it was z23, and it was an unpleasant experience, don't know much about their track day pads.

Can you give more detail about what you didn't like?

Stock pads had strong bite and inspire confidence with little effort to stop, with powerstop, there was no bite, and the pedal effort was high, didn't inspire confidence, also the braking pedal wasn't linear, I changed them to Hawk hp 5.0 and they were much better but also not at oem pads level.

Maybe their track pads are different, I read the huge positive reviews of them in srt communities before buying, at their price point I wouldn't complain (roughly usd 100 vs 500) but I care about how my brakes feel even in street.

This is for future users. I've used those for a year. They are amazing for the price. They have great initial bite.. but once you overheat them, it will never be the same haha. Dust is horrible but it is to be expected. Not recommended for street use.

I'm looking at the Power Stop pads at the moment. Just want to check, which pads have you used?

I do like these pads especially at their price point. Not the best in all out performance, but they cannot be beat for the price.

Strong initial bite, easy to modulate. They do fade about 10 minutes into the session, but they tend to plateau at that point and are consistent and predictable. I have done a 60 minute session on these pads. Once they get to that level, they remain consistently at that level for the remainder of the session.

They last me about 6 hours of track time when they have about 5mm of pad material left. They start at around 11mm. I could easily get to about 8 hours of time on these pads, but at the price point it's not a big deal. I go through two sets of front pads to a set of rear pads.

I tried to run Track Day Spec on fronts with Track Day rears to mitigate ice mode, but the rears wore down to the backing place in about an hour. I have since switched to running Track Day Spec both front and rear and have been happy with that combination. No ICE mode yet. I have previous triggered ICE mode when running the XP10/XP8 combination. Apparently they claim platform specific compounds so it is possible they have a different compound for the rear.

Overall I highly recommend them if you are looking for consistency on a budget.

Zebra, What difference have you noticed between the Powerstop track day and track day spec pads?

I have the track day pads on my Z and I'm going to try them for the first time at VIR in a few weeks. Previously I have run the Stoptech sport pads.

I have the sport brakes
.

My only experience was running Track Day on the rears and they did not last at all.

So I tried out the Powerstop track day pads at a Track Advantage event at VIR. Two days with four 30min sessions each day. A lot of track time (4hrs!). Pads survived but they do dust like hell. I'll have to pull the wheels to see exactly how much pad is left. No issues for me other than the dust. Doesn't look like much rotor wear either.

I wonder how the track day "spec" pads are when cold and for rotor wear? I use the track day pads on the street and other than the noise and dust they are ok.

In my experience the Track Day Spec work well from cold and are still very rotor friendly. Going on 3 seasons on my rear rotors and front rotors lasted 2 seasons before I replaced due to heat check cracks getting large.
