Default ST Coilovers

Hey guys, this is my first post on the forum, but I've been researching for a while on here. I am considering going with ST coilovers, they are manufactured by KW I believe. I was curious as to why I can't find much information on the forum with people running these since they are affordable duel tube design. Are they a bunch of crap, or just not well known?

Reason I ask is if I will need to spend 2k on coilovers, I would just assume save up another grand or 2 and do air ride.

Couple things to note. The damping is not adjustable, only ride height. And, they dont come with top hats, so you'll need to disassemble your front strut/springs and use your OE hats. For those reasons alone Id go with BC. Messing with spring compressors ain't much fun.

hmmm, appreciate the information, I did not realize that damping wasn't adjustable. yeah spring compressors are not fun. a co worker broke his hand using one a few years back. Just have to know what you're doing and be careful.

I've read good things about powertrix, but for me the website won't load.

What would be my best bet to lower the car 2.5-3 inches front and rear? Looking to spend about 1,000. I’ve been looking at Tein, but the spring rates seem to be a little stiff for daily driving. I’d also like to stay away from pillowball mount if I can just to help reduce vibration.

That price range and your goal aren't gonna work.

Not getting pillowballs is stupid - you won't notice the vibration and its better for pretty much everything.

If you wanna go low, no matter what coilovers you want OR even if you go air (looking at $4k), you're gonna need adjustable arms (from SPL) to get everything aligned.

And then you need wheels that are gonna fill out your fenders

Before you buy ANYTHING you need to seriously think about the end point.

U wanna do something like this:

Which is basically on the ground - that's air suspension. Air struts, controller, tank, etc. You'll still want all the suspension arms to dial it in. And if you are on air, your wheels should probably be close to 0 offset or its gonna look like ***

Or you can do where i'm at:

This is top of the tire just inside the fender, probably a good 2.5 inches or so. Thats static, no air, Aragosta Type-S coilovers, every single SPL arm, -3 F and -2 R camber. Daily driveable (i have a second car though, so i don't), no rubbing or scraping except the extreme driveways/ramps. 20x11 +!5 front 20x12 +20 rear with 275/30 and 315/25. Room to go bigger tire in rear. Front fenders pulled, rears just rolled

Most coilovers can achieve this. Fortunes can, Stance can. Not sure about Powertrix, I think so, i just have no experience. KW V3's cannot.

And if you're ok with a higher height thats got a bit of wheel gap, any coilover will do. I think powertrix even lets you get to stock height, even if thats stupid and pointless

Again, though, budget ahead of time. It sorta sounds like you wanna be low and do it for cheap . . . like a beginner 240sx build. I did that. i've seen that. Don't do that. It won't ride well, it won't look good, and you'll probably end up buying parts twice

Price out what you want and cover these categories:
Coilovers or Air suspension
SPL Arms
Wheels
Tires
Install
Suspension
Fender modification (may not be necessary)

dig through those wheel fitment threads diligently, find something you like, copy it. thats the surest way

dont cheap out

Just have patience and wait for powertrix to have another sale, he runs them all the time. The ss will fit what your after, can go from oem height to slammed, even comes with helper springs for the front if you want to go ground scraping low, uses poly upper instead of pillowball so a good compromise, adjustable damping that works. I think when on sale they are right at about 1000.

Thanks for the information guys! It’s not that I’m not wanting to spend the money for quality parts, I just can’t justify spending 2500-3k on coils installed, when I can do air for around 4K installed by a shop near by. All though, that price does not include arms, toe bolts etc. I’m coming out of a 5.0 mustang so all I needed was lowering springs, I’m new to Coilovers and the Z platform.
