Do I need a bracket for Akebono upgrade?

Looking to improve braking feel and such and have decided to go with the oem sport brake route. Would love to get the other branded ones but cost can go a bit ways.

I have an 09 touring excluding sport package
Looking to add 18x9.5 +22 in the fronts

So far my list
4 piston Akenono caliper(sport) fronts only
-clips,shims, pins, rings and hardware
Pads (sport)
Rotors (sport)
Banjo bolts (shorter) (sport)
SS LINES (sport)
Fluid.

I feel like im missing something... a different bracket? Or would these go right in?

Trying to leave the rear alone with better pads. Fronts for now.

You'll need to caliper mounting bracket, because the caliper itself is physically larger, as is the rotor. So you'll need a semi-loaded caliper.

Where can i find such bracket? Ive been searching and cant find anyone that has these?
Or is this bracket not needed if modifying the dust shield?

The bracket you'll need for certain. I'm not sure if you can buy it separately from nissan or not. But, calipers are typically sold in three configurations:
Unloaded - just the caliper alone
Semi-loaded - caliper and mounting bracket
Loaded - caliper, mounting bracket, pads and hardware.

You'll need the trim the dust shield regardless, unless you want to buy one to fit from a sport model, but it's an arguably unnecessary expense.

The stock base brakes have the same mounting holes as the akebono. You do not need a bracket. I suggest trimming the dust shields. Also if doing yourself I highly suggest getting a brake line wrench.

AdamRacer, I stand to be corrected, but are you saying that the Akebono caliper will bolt to the the base caliper mounting bracket? I may be wrong here, I but I had assumed that a physically larger caliper, and rotor could not use the base model caliper mounting bracket. Or is the OP asking if he needs a special adapter bracket, such as you would need if you were looking to convert a z32 to the Akebono's?

I did the swap a few months ago, the calipers bolt up into the same spot, no need for a bracket.

Wow, well that's good to know. Apologies on the bad Intel. I was going off the info from when we did my brothers z32. Plan on doing my base soon as well, I'll be going with the red, so if it's not too cost prohibitive, I'll but the semi-loaded with the bracket as opposed to painting the existing.

The swap is really straight forward, the only thing that's a pain is trimming the dust shields, otherwise it's just swapping calipers and rotors.

Not a problem. All I could find was brackets for 350, so i figures brackets are for other older Zs.
Z1's kit didnt seem to have brackets as well so i assumed it should bolt right up.

Thanks for all the info everyone! Will be having akebonos ordered soon!

As for the dust shield, i have read it can be a PITA to get off and swap, anyone confirm?
If it is, ill go ahead with the trimming option.. already had to trim some stuff for g3s so more trimming wouldnt bother me if its unseed

That's my understanding. The cost/effort to swap isn't worth it when you can just trim them for the clearance.

I agree you have to pull the hubs off to get to them. Vs 5 minutes with some metal sheers.

The Akebono's as well as the 350Z Brembo's have the bracket casted into the caliper. That's basically how every fixed caliper is designed for OEM use. Higher end calipers are usually top mount (bolts go down through the caliper towards the hub), and don't come with a bracket, as they are supplied for many applications.

Yeah I was going on the information for a conversion I did with a z32. Had assumed the z34 would be the same on account of the larger caliper. Honest mistake.
