Advanation sway bar?

tell me if im wrong but lets say you have different size bars, the bigger will obviously be stronger and im pretty sure better for the Z in the front.

tell me if im wrong but lets say you have different size bars, the bigger will obviously be stronger and im pretty sure better for the Z in the front. however...lets say you have all non-adjustable bars. depending where the mounting hole is will actually act differently with strength. i tried to do this before but no one chimed in.

based on just a round tube the Hotchkis is without a doubt the strongest based on moment of inertia even being hollow over say the whiteline at 27mm solid. Calculator for Engineers - Area Moment of Inertia, centroid, section modulus. the thing is though sway bars aren't just round tube. they bend in and out and then the mounting hole will be different for all. the whitelines obviously adjustable. the closest mounting hole to the flat original shape of just a round tube will add strength to the bar. a 32mm bar with a single hole further out should be weaker than a 31mm bar with a closer hole. depending of course how far out are we're talking.

all i want to know is, if you put your bars flat against a wall on the long smooth part of the bar and measure out the the start of your mounting holes, what do you get? i can measure the stock and whitelines 2 holes. id like to know these and Hotchkis as well.

We shall call this the swag bar going forward. That sounds better!

Like this? (This is the rear bar)

EDIT: Actually I propped the bar up straight and the middle of the hole is at 149mm.

i mean wat is the material made out of (wat alloy)? that changes everything.. length to hole alone isnt really an accurate way to measure torsion spring rate.

That logic could be applied to all sway bars on the market, any vendor can tell you it's made out of 'x'.

my mug can handle 12oz.

measure the height of the mug to see if it matches my mug... if it does, then my mug must also measure 12oz. never mind the diameter and the other parameters like thickness, etc.

Measuring to see how they compare with other sway bars on the market. I realize the hole for the end link is not exactly comparable unless the bars are the same material, but diameter should be a decent indicator.

It would suck if any sway bar snapped. We have no evidence that this one is any more prone to failure.

Well it's obviously steel so whats whitelines? Stillen? Hotchkis? I get where you're coming from but I'm not sure sways are chromoly. So that pretty much leaves DOM for tubing and hot or cold roll for solid. Idk about you but 30.3mm of any is pretty freaking strong. Hell the chart someone made on which bars are strongest just used moment of inertia for all being the same material. If WL's chromoly and Hotchkins is cold roll, then everyone's understanding of which sway is strongest is dead!

That's what I'm talking about! But everyone hates the rear haha. Most run OEM and some run nothing unless you drift. I'm a little OCD so I'd like that flat on concret against flat against a wall (no carpet). This would be optimal measurements.

I put the rear on my hardwood floor against drywall, looks like the endlink hole is at 150mm. That's the best you're gonna get!

Not sure if I have the motivation to remove / reinstall the front bar to get these measurements, at this point I still haven't even driven the car.

Well I just might be putting my swag on here soon. I'm gonna see if I can break a steel bar with sway.
