After looking at the wiring diagrams the only difference is that the navigation unit has extra pins - one for ground, two for can-h and can-l, and one for speed

After looking at the wiring diagrams the only difference is that the navigation unit has extra pins - one for ground, two for can-h and can-l, and one for speed sensor. I can add a pin for ground, but what would happen without the can wires? I'm fairly certain the speed wire wouldn't be necessary.
