Default Component or Coax in dash?

Ok, I'm about to ask a really stupid question, so if you want to call me an idiot, that's fine cause I don't know any of you and I don't care what you think. LOL! j/k!

But seriously...

I have a '14 Nismo, Base sound system. The speakers in the door and dash are a component set or are they separate channels?

If I wanted to replace them, I would have to do another component set and replace all 4 or can I do just Coax's in the doors and will the dash speakers still work?

I'm a car audio noob, can you tell? haha!

Thanks for taking the time!

I don't know, but someone should pop up soon and give you an answer. For future reference, wiring diagrams, pinouts, &c are in the FSM (see link in my sig).

Thanks Kenchan!

I have a set of Hybrid 65.1 Mirus that I was going to use, but I guess I can't now. Damn.

Oh well, I'll take a look at the Polks. Thanks Again!

That's not a bad idea. I just verified the model and they are M65-2. I bought them new a while back and never got a chance to install them in my Z32.

I'd like to try them or do you think I should sell them as they are still BNIB, or try them and see?

i guess it depends how much you might be able to get for your coax's?

like if less than 80% of your purchase price, might as well give them a shot on your car.
and if you like them, great. and coax's are so easy to install cause you dont need to
think about routing the wires through the door grommet or watever to hook up your
cross over and tweeter separately.

if u dont like how they turn out, sell starting at 80% of price and go down or something.

Are the Polk db6501's the "cat's meow" when it comes to 6.5" component speakers? You mentioned them earlier, so I assume you have them and/or like them?

I know Hybrid and Hertz also make nice speakers. Have any experience with them?

i run the 6501's in my G35C (bose + pioneer avh-4500bt), but use stock speakers in my Z and pioneer avh-4500bt.

since my Z is pretty loud (exhaust) i decided not to spend too much money on the audio.
but the 6501 are my choice if i ever decide to swap speakers.

You can certainly use your coax speakers in the doors with no issues, and your dash speakers will still work.
As for the polk's being "the cats meow".... No they are not. They are an affordable, midstream set that have decent sound, and are perfectly adequate for most.
You're only limited there by your budget.
Hybrid and Hertz get you closer to the top of the pile, but can get Very costly.
Component sets are a dime a dozen, and can range from $100 to $5,000 or more.
How serious are you about your sounds....

Thanks Ron! LOL!

It looks like the Polks and the Hertz DCX165's are about the same price.

I'm not that crazy about sound, I just had these Hybrids sitting in the closet and if they will work, fit, and sound nicer than stock, why not use them?

But, if I plug them in, will the tweeter not be used at all if I leave the dash speakers plugged in to the stock wiring?

yah, unplug your tweeter cause you will have too much midhigh/high frequencies... but you can always try it just for kicks with your coax in the doors before you unplug the tweeters.
