Nowadays, I can't keep up with all the new technology as far as iphones, apps, all the different types of media, ect. It really gets overwhelming. Not long ago, I installed a head unit for a young man, and couldn't figure out how to drop the face to slide in a disc. The little bastard laughed at me, and said it doesn't play cd's, only usb, sd card, thumb drive, mp3, iphone, bluetooth streaming, pandora, hd radio, xm radio, and I thought he said it vacuums the floor mats at night when you park it, and spritzes air freshener if it detects you farting......
I think its time to hit the sidelines!

i think russel invented the cd player and sony was one of the first to mass produce it. Sony made the first in-car cd player i think.

Love hertz, focal, image dynamics, and morel.
I like Pioneer, but I'm with you: Alpine is better.

However, I tend to stray away from Alpine, because they really are proud of their stuff.

Doesn't Alpine only work w/other Alpine equipment (or has that changed)?

that's wat they want to claim, but it was philips/sony that really did the footwork to make cd's a consumer product including car audio in 1984. i know this era because i use to be an audiophile myself.

pioneer just conveniently appeared from the side as part of the world effort to make CD a world standard along with RCA and others, imho. by then sony already had the discman.

Hu? Never heard they only are compatible with alpine stuff. I have used alpine and pioneer over the past 10 years and used infinity and other amps with them. Never had a problem. If your talking about add on modules like nav and BT thats with any manufacture you have to buy one from that company to use it.

Agreed. I know sony did have their hands in the first factory installed cd systems, as well as another outfit whose name escapes me. I believe pioneer slipped in the back door in the aftermarket world.

Then I fell victim to being "scammed", lol. I know more now than I did in the past, and back then I was pretty green and I think I believed whatever the installer told me.

Where's my damn time machine?
