I was told that dealerships put that on cars as a tracking device to help keep track of their cars, and once the car is purchased they give that info

I was told that dealerships put that on cars as a tracking device to help keep track of their cars, and once the car is purchased they give that info to the lien holder. Incase it's somewhat a risky loan, they need to be able to find the car for repo
