Anyone care to elaborate as to what this is?

Had my car a month, previous owner had this in it. Don't know what it's for but it's leads to a box under the dash that I assume has the sending wire for the clutch running to it? Picture below of the reset button with the led to the front. Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried contacting the previous owner?

My Maxima had the same thing
It was connected to it's own full wiring harness that acted as a low jack. It was a rental car

EDIT:
I had it ripped out

Yep he doesn't know either, he is actually the 2rd owner. The first owner had it put on. I guess I could unhook it but not trying to be haste.

I am not sure what it could be either. Might be a performance part of some sort.

I looked at it again. I'd have to spend some time on it to unhook it right, you can tell it was professionally installed. I think it's a disabled aftermarket alarm system or a lojack type system.

to me it looks like it could be a secondary button as a theft deterrent. Meaning you have to hold the button down like 5 seconds and wait for a chime then you can start the car. they used to have those at the dealers, back in my Valet days, but it was a chip that you needed to plug in, wait for the chirp, then you had 30 seconds to start the car. There were kind of stupid since you could just cross the wires and it would override the chip.

He's watching you! *queue THE POLICE*

^^^ I know right haha, that's what someone brought to my attention. I wish i had the space to attempt to unhook it. i gotta pull a lot of stuff to get it and i have limited space where i'm at.

It could be a bypass wire for the clutch depress switch? So that if you were SUPER careful you could start the car without depressing the clutch by pressing that button?
Sound idiotic but I've seen worse.

lol, tried that. didn't work. The guy who looked at it didn't really investigate it too much. I looked underneath myself earlier, and the wire off of it leads into the mid console. I gotta do some serious digging to find out where it's leading too.

I was told that dealerships put that on cars as a tracking device to help keep track of their cars, and once the car is purchased they give that info to the lien holder. Incase it's somewhat a risky loan, they need to be able to find the car for repo

Darn! I for sure thought that was it! I've actually thought of doing that mod myself but then I imagine my car crashing into a wall or another car when I press that button and I'm in gear :)

Perhaps a fuel cutoff switch? Some people wire them up so that the car can't be driven even if the alarm is bypassed.

Karr alarm
