I installed the ASWC earlier this year, and once I got it in my head what wires I needed to tap, it was easy after that. No manual programming and haven't had any problems since the install.
For my USB thumb drive, I just routed the cable from the rear of the HU into the glove box. Sure, a micro thumb drive just about fills it up, but it was easy access to get the wire into it.
