Nice!!!!!

Wonka2581 03-30-2013 03:10 AM

Nice, what model is that? Also can you control it with your steering wheel controls?

Tribalpinoy91 03-30-2013 03:31 AM

How does the display look on that bad boy?( I really dislike the sharp edged fonts found in most HU)

Sharp font. Looks awesome IMO.

JENZ 03-30-2013 10:49 AM

So far so good. I really like being able to use my waze app for navi on it and pandora.

kenchan 03-30-2013 07:22 PM

 I have the 4500BT in m Z. :)

Sweet!

Haboob 04-01-2013 09:46 AM

Nice!

That's the exact HU I have picked out for when (if) I decide to upgrade it.

The steering wheel controls show no lag when switching songs or stations? That's what I'm most worried about.

No lag thus far.

Waiz 04-01-2013 02:10 PM

Looks nice, did you go with the Navigation upgrade?

The AVIC-D3 that I have on my Z is still going strong after almost 6 years, Pioneer makes some great products!

bldg636 04-01-2013 04:58 PM

Where'd you pick that one up if you don't mind my asking??

How does that work?

XwChriswX 04-01-2013 08:29 PM

What does that one come loaded with?

I have the 4300 and love it, it is "ready" for all things (Nav, Sat Radio, BT, HD Radio) but none loaded. Debating on just getting an all inclusive one to replace this one (which as like yours works great) or just buying the specific modules and having to rewire everything... :icon08:

I did not. Reason being- I prefer to save the extra $$$ and just use my Waze app for navi right on the double din.

I bought mine at Fry's. I know you can get them on Amazon for much cheaper but something about waiting for something to come thru the mail and then hope it wasn't damaged in transit (and not have a warranty) freaks me out. :ugh:

There is an additional usb to iphone/ipod/ipad cord you can buy from pioneer (or what ever vendor) that allows you to use "advanced app mode" on the display. It gives you access to about 21 apps pioneer has "approved." Waze, Pandora, Google Maps are just a few. I've always relied on Waze for navi so for me it was an easy decision.

kenchan 04-01-2013 08:49 PM

yah, amazon's virtual tenants are most likely NOT authorized dealers so they can't offer the full pioneer warranty. it's smart to buy from frys, crutchfield, etc.

but the last time a pioneer unit broke on me was never so i buy my stuff from amazon. i have a 2500BT that's going in my dd in the coming weeks. :woot:

It's "ready" for nav if you buy their nav unit. Or you can use Google Maps or Waze with the advanced app set-up.

I think it is also "ready" for satellite radio. Or you can use Pandora or iHeartRadio with the advanced app set-up.

It included BT. Big contributing reason for why I bought it.

It has HD radio. I could care less about this feature because I can't really tell the difference.

My biggest debate was getting something with navi already or something to use apps for navi. What it came down to was my husband telling me to shut up and go make him a sandwich. J/K. But really what sold this one for me is that my husband pointed out the fact that I could add on the navi unit from pioneer later if I really decided I didn't like using apps for it.

kenchan 04-01-2013 08:58 PM

dayam, jenz- my wife tells me to make her a sandwich. lol :icon17: ;)

HD Radio I really don't care for, but BT and Nav I do. Sat radio is a luxury I might want one day later on.

I typically use google on my phone for nav, but to look down at the screen takes too much attention away from driving, so if I have it on my HU its not so far down, and is a larger screen, both wins. So I might decide to get the nav unit for mine. Just wish it came with BT, but I think there's a module for that too...

Ok so I just decided the X5500 would be all that I need (until I decide to add nav later) and bought it on Amazon.

One question, where did you mount your microphone? Mind posting a picture if its a particularly clever spot?

Edit: Also, where did you get your signal for reverse (if you installed a backup cam)

Ill take a pic and post later but I paid a shop for my install. They put the mic at the top of the driver side a-pillar.

Also, I didn't get the back up camera.

kenchan 04-03-2013 02:08 PM

in my car i placed the mic at the ceiling near the rearview mirror. :)

the reverse light wire works great for reverse signal since you'll be taking out the trunk liner to wireup the rear camera. check out bigaudiofanat's install picts.

i also recommend you wire up the rear fog lamp while you have all the bits out, and do the GTMat liner on the trunk floor.

Pintsize725 04-03-2013 02:14 PM

Did someone say GTMat?! My forum alarm went off. ;)

LostSol 04-03-2013 02:24 PM

OK cool thanks for the ideas guys, hoping the HU is here by friday so I can do the install over the weekend, maybe I can take a bunch of pics and make an updated DIY

When I get around to that I definitely will, but for now I dont feel like I need it

kenchan 04-03-2013 02:45 PM

one thing i STRONGLY recommend is when you pull-up the shifter ring (first step), place a thick towel under it so you dont scratch the center console when you place it down. :)

not that i scratched mine, but i see a lot of folks with scratched center consoles. :ugh2:

like this:

LostSol 04-03-2013 02:57 PM

ill just pull off my shift knob and set the whole assembly aside

yah, might want to read about the shift knob removal thread... you might get lucky, but mine was a royal pita to remove. broke 2 strap wrenches.

LostSol 04-03-2013 03:08 PM

LOL i have an aftermarket knob already, and I did destroy my stock knob in the process, but my new knob is easy off.

kenchan 04-03-2013 03:31 PM

haha, yah, me too.

anyway, the stereo install is easy to do with the shifter ring still attached too.

Looking good OP :tiphat:

I picked up the AVH-X3500BHS a few weeks back.
Does anyone know if radio preset seeking steering wheel control (w/PAC SWI-RC) works with these 2013 line of Pioneer HUs? I know there is a limitation listed on the PAC website, just wondering if it still applies. The way I have it setup now I can only manually go through the band in .2 increments.

"Pioneer AVIC-Fxxx radios do not interpret radio preset seeking commands. This is a limitation of the radio not the SWI-RC. There is no correction for this unless it comes from Pioneer. "

kenchan 04-04-2013 01:10 PM

looks good, jenz. :) i saw a couple other people placing their mic there. originally i was going to place mine there too, but i decided to place it near the rear view mirror as i could tuck the clip into the ceiling liner more cleanly.

im using a 4yr old peripheral (pac) on my 4500BT and for FM radio, i do need to select the presents on the display to scroll. other then that, everything works. i dont really listen to the radio so this is no issue for me. :)

i will be installing a 2500BT in the next week or so using a ASWC in my dd. will post back how that works. its on my honda, but it has the same steering wheel controls as my base Z.
