They sell the carpet that has a hole but you dont have to buy it, you can use your stock carpet. However it may muffle the sound a bit, not sure. I imagine you can cut a thin layer off the bottom of the carpet to let some sound come through. Just dont place anything on top of the carpet in that area
 You can probably cut a hole in the plastic piece that comes with your car to make a spacer for the carpet. Ill try to take a pic of mine from the side with the grill off for you
