Default HU + Backup camera?

Hey I just recently got my 370 a few days ago, and I am finding it actually alittle harder then I expected to park in my city then with my previous car with the tiny back window so I am considering getting a backup camera. I don't want to just buy an extra screen for the backup camera so I am thinking of getting a new HU that allows using a backup camera. I have the bose system in it without navi. I was wondering if anyone can suggest a combination of a good HU + backup camera? I would like to see a mid level pricing setup to a higher end setup. I tried finding a post, but couldn't seem to have any luck. If there is please send a link. Thanks again.

Kenwood makes both a great head unit and reverse cameras. The more you spend for the unit the more features you are going to get. Are you looking for nav as well?

I was thinking about a navi also, not needed completely, but it wouldn't be bad.

I recently had the DNX9990HD installed, along with the Kenwood CMOS-310 backup camera. It works great, soon as you put car in reverse the display switches to the camera. Many different views. Super wide takes a little while to get used to. Overhead is pretty cool too. There's also a view while in the Nav mode to split the screen and have a small picture in picture that displays what's behind you while driving. No real use as it's quite small, but just one of those "cool" features. The camera also displays the Green/Yellow/Red grid lines indicating how close you are to an object.

Head unit was $1100, camera was $300. Price towards the higher end, but you won't be disappointed.

I'm about to purchase exactly that same gear. The part I'm trying to figure out is if I can output NAV on one screen I'd like to place in the cubby while displaying the regular stuff on the main screen. Granted, the aux screen won't be touch enabled but it would be cool to have the NAV up high.

Many modern head units provide for auxiliary screens mainly for rear seat viewing in soccer mom vans but not sure if I can pull off my idea. If this is too much of a threadjack, please disregard.

Thanks Ninja for the info. Did you have to buy any extra components such an adapter for the steering wheel control? I'm not an expert, but as I read somewhere you would need to for it to work. Is that true? Im assuming the camera fit perfectly in the little box that is removable on the bumper?

Good luck with your idea. It sounds nice, but two screens would probably be too distracting for me lol

Like you, I worried about the position of the nav and went through all the possible options of getting the nav mounted in the cubby, because dammit, that's where it should be. However, I've had this HU for about 8 months now and I'm happy to report that the placement is perfect and I wouldn't even dream of ever touching my cubby! Have installed in the double din...you'll love it!

Steering wheel controls work perfectly (you'll need an adapter but your stereo guy should know...if not call mine - Auto Stereo Sound in Long Beach - John or Jay will tell you), the source button even toggles through to Pandora! I think you'll also need a frame (can't think of the right word). Rear cam goes to the left of the "little box". Mic for blue tooth on the left next to the visor (tried the center but it sounded clearer to the left). Sirius antenna mount nicely under the tweeter grill on the dash. You'll probably want to upgrade your speakers, add a couple of amps (2nd one for sub), and add a sub. The system is mean.

I have the Nismo, so not sure what "little box" you are referring to. They installed my camera next to one of the license plate lights. Kind of sticks out, but is fine for now. I've seen a thread or two where one of the license plate lights is replaced by a housing that holds the camera. Pretty sweet looking. As for the trim/filler around the head unit, the installer left it off. Not sure if the trim piece that came with the head unit doesn't fit, but the gap is very small. There is an installation kit from Scoshe that supposedly has this filler that fits, but from the pics on their website I cannot tell.

There is also the GPS antenna that mounts on the dash. Like Cuban said, there is an adapter for the steering wheel controls, runs around $70. Sirius makes an adapter for satellite radio if you want that, also adds an antenna. I have the mic for bluetooth mounted in center of headliner, seems to be working fine. Only complaint is if I'm driving on not so smooth road, noise is compared to airplane on runway.

I know I should be focusing on things like oil cooler and exhaust upgrades, but I caught the audio bug. Definitely upgrade your sound. I had Helix E62C components put in, along with JL XD 700/5 amp and Kenwood 10" shallow sub in a Wicked CAS corner box. Huge difference. Good luck with your head unit.

I'm a noob at Z audio but I think that housed camera is an ebay kit including cam for $25, not a housing for the CMOS-310 but I'm hoping to read differently. i'm kind of leery mounting a $300 camera with double-sided tape.

As for NAV, maybe it will be fine just with the head unit but I still look at that cubby and think what a waste of real estate. Maybe a Nexus 7 mount down the road then.

As for install kits, I was going to get the Metra but is the Scosche better? (for Touring with non-NAV Blows)

My Kenwood camera came with a little remote control button to switch views. Is it true that I won't need it with the DNX9900 because it can control the camera views from the screen?

Yes it is true. Tap the right side of the screen to switch views, left side to turn on/off the green/yellow/red.

Didn't know that the camera mount was installed only using double sided tape. Good call, I agree I'd rather have something more permanent with a $300 camera. I can't give advice on the dash kits, haven't even heard of the non-scosche one.

I've also been wanting to put something in the cubby space as it does seem like a wasted space. Turbo boost controller down the road maybe. Don't think a nexus 7 will fit. Samsung Note 2 maybe. But for what purpose? I have the HTC DNA phone, was thinking of some kind of mount/holder.
