Default audio set up question

vehicle: 2013 - 370z
current set up: stock radio and speakers

what i would like: just add in a 8" sub for more of a bump when listening to unce unce unce

so far got an idea of getting a jl 8" with the 500 series amp from jl as well. i could upgrade the amp to the 600 series. but for now i think the 500 series is plenty. i dont want to be the loudest

also if i get the sub do i might as well change out the side speakers and tweeters for the mids and highs for clarity?

would i also need to upgrade the radio too? i just have my ipod hooked up on the aux port. im not sure about the hook up on it, but i have to i just want a single din radio (bluetooth would be nice). i dont need a double din/screen

Simplest thing you can do is use the USB port rather than the aux. Ipods have a truly awful DAC so you will have a major loss of quality using the AUX port which depends on the ipod DAC, rather than the in car head unit DAC. That will improve your quality over all, but given how awful the stock sub is, it won't change your bass much.

If you want to save some cash do not go with JL, there are a lot better options for the buck, especially if you are looking to add a little bump.

Rockford Fosgate would just be one off the top of my head.

I second what iron said, by using an AUX input your loosing a lot of quality including bass. Even upgrading your head unit will help with audio quality. Also will be easier to install your new sub and amp.

Sub

Amp (could go bigger)
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575P400....html?tp=35834

Also if you buy from amazon or woofersetc they would even be cheaper.

Lol, more waiting for YOUR reply

I don't mind JL Audio, I will always tell people to change head unit and speakers before touching anything else. If I had a base I'd install the full 6 speakers though

Yes a head unit makes a lot of difference on it's own. I would do front speakers and a sub, I am not even doing rear speakers in my altima coupe. Too much of an audio nut.

I think any extra sound is a plus.
The first car I started modding audio wise was my 2001 Toyota Avalon, bought a head unit, wow... Really woke up the whole car, louder, more bass, everything was more crisp, even with stock speakers... Blew them out though, lol

Then bought some crap Costco speakers, Boss Audio I think ($30/2, Costco had them on sale) so I replaced all 4, and I was over the prospect of getting a sub...

Still sounds pretty good!

they quoted 600 for the box, jl 8" and the 500 series amp
closer to 700 with the 600 series

both without changing the radio.

thanks for the inputs! its been on my mind all day

so what single din radio (would bluetooth better than the usb connection?) should i be considering?

Big audio will say he doesn't like Bluetooth much... Personally I think they are pretty damn good, and I consider myself an audiophile...

Why Single DIN? Cost?

And Big audio is THE MAN to tell you which HU to buy, I don't know a damn thing about single DIN units

Looks like you do some cool installs. I have a quick question for you. I'm getting ready install my new Pioneer AVH-X4500BT. Since I take trips with my 6 year old, I'd like to bypass the DVD parking break sensor. Internet research shows people have had a lot of success by just connecting the Green wire that would connect to the parking brake sensor to the BLack grounding wire or properly grounding out the Green wire. Have you had any experience with this and can you validate that this works?

just really dont see the desire for a double din/screen

i have gps on my phone, why get it for the vehicle?
if i wanna watch a movie, i have an ipad and tv/laptop hook up so why in a smaller screen?
its more inviting for thieves to break in the ride to take it imo.

for me personally i dont see a benifit, but you might have some pro's that i didnt think about that i didnt think of so far to gettin it.

Yes, you have to connect it to a ground, I had to do a fast and furious install and put a big *** switch to switch the bypass...
My HU needed the ground to be connected after the car was on... I guess a safety feature

When you're doing the install, you can play with the wires

You would be surprised if you went with a company like polk or alpine for speakers and amps

Bluetooth compressed your music down to around 229 KBPS which is even lower than most music downloads today. Yes it is better than radio but still bad IMO. It is nice not having wires though.

Yes you are going to need a video bypass, some are moving a pin some are grounding some need a special rig to trick the system. Yours will need a special circuit to trick the system.

Also just putting this out there. I am still seeing a lot of people having problems with pioneers after a year or two. I recommend going with kenwood instead.

Not that simple anymore buddy, not for a lot of head units. Kenwood is still easy as grounding the lime green wire.
