Default Any one have a JL 13TW5?

I just purchased one of these from Ebay, and I noticed they have a box on there that fits the sub. I was wondering if any of you guys have that set up? If so where did you put the box? Do you know if it will fit behind one of the front seats? Unfortunately i a \m out of town so I can't go measure it my self. Or would it be easier to make my own box? Thanks for any input!

Your not going to get anthing behind those seats much less a subwoofer. your best bet is an enclosure where the spare tire resides or building an enclosure above the trunk floor. If your going above the trunk floor than a 13TW5 is a big waste of money. Your money would be better spent on 1 or more conventional type subwoofers.

I plan on using the 13TW5 in a stealth enclosure where the spare tire is. There is just enough room and clearance for this subwoofer and for that location this is the best subwoofer available.

yeah, I wasn't sure since I don't have my car in front of me since i am out of town. I originally have been looking in to a box in the spare tire compartment, that why I purchased the speaker. But I was looking on ebay and found that box, but I wasn't sure if it would fit. What kind of stealth box are you going to use? I got a quote from a place locally, for a custom box, but they want about $350.00 for the box, plus more for install. Just seems kind of expensive for a box that i'm sure I could build. I also was thinking of just making a flat board that would be the shape of the foam that is in there that goes over the spare tire. I don't want it to rattle tho, esp since it would just fit in there on more foam. I'm afraid of it bouncing out of there.

Not all true if you get a shallow sub and a truck slope box it will fit just fine. I have done it with a 350z worked just fine it was a Rockford fosgate punch stage 2 in this type of box.

This is what I am going for. Its totally stealth and the enclosure is the right size for the driver. Yes you probably could squeeze a tight box behind the seat but you would have to move your seat way forward. Plus you wont have the air space and this sub sounds bad in too small of a box. Plus no offense but IMHO its kinda ghetto throwing boxes behind the seats of a car. I much prefere an integrated solution that optomizes the transfer function of the interior of the vehicle. What I mean by this is optimally you want the sub as far from you as possible and if you can you want it to reflect off of the glass in the rear to lengthen the bass wave. With the right tuning and tweaking you can make the sub bass sound like its in front of you. Thats what I try to achieve in any audio install I do. Trust me, location makes a huge difference in SQ! If your going for SPL, than it doesent matter.

Behind the seat gives you a nice tactile feel and will give you more SPL due to them being right there behind you but it wont give you the SQ type of sound as the latter.

Thats my 2 cents for the day.

6" Deep
20" Length and Width
Volume - .9 cu ft

Note! You have to cut a hole in the center of the floor of the box for the tire bolt down. The floor is not entirely flat because of this bump in the center of the floor. After its built up you can use it to secure the box. This leaves you with 3" of usable depth. See photo

You can make the box even bigger if you like. This one will be perfectly .8cu ft once the 13TW5 is installed. No stuffing required.

very nice, and thanks for the measurements. I finally was able to measure out mine. I like the idea of making it a tad bigger than what is recommended. I was also thinking of taking the cut out on the bottom, and leaving it a void to where if I cut it just big enough, I can make that an anchor for the box. I'm thinking some washers will work, and maybe throw in a rubber on one the two ends.

Yea I had seen your thread about that install - it looks sick man - I wish to do that someday as well... just need to get rid of my JL12W6v2 + custom box for the G35 haha... I have a phoenix gold 1channel amp that RMSs around 900watts... might be overkill for the W5.... lol

the 13tw5 is a nice sub, i had one in .8 cubes which is what jl reccomends but I personally think it would shine in a little more air space. seems more than feasible to fit almost any sub ypu want in that spare tire well with a little glass work.
