I'm finally going to be able to have this done sometime in the next week or two myself!!

Weekends have been hectic for me lately.

No worries guys, we have some patience. :) Remember, if you are attempting to install in cooler weather, a heat gun will be your best friend!!

Anyone else interested can give us a call for a sample.

Just got mine in today. Hopfully get a chance to install this weekend.

First thoughts

Hey guys, I just placed my order with GTMat, I have used Dynamat and eDead plenty of times in other cars to kill road noise...

From first contact with GTMat, I have to say, I got a reply at 8AM sharp, both on the forum and Facebook. I told them that I was going to place an order to do the whole trunk and the doors, no use in just testing 10 feet. And I HAVE driven a Z with full bolt ons that was fully Dynamatted as well.
After informing them that I had used Dynamat in the past I received this message:
I do want to be up front and state that our product is a discount alternative to Dynamat. If you can afford to install Dynamat, do so, as their product is name brand for a reason. Our discount version is asphalt based but with a higher heat resistance than other discount brands and very little to no asphalt smell when installed.
I would advise receiving the sample first though since you may not be happy with the 50 mil thickness. If you've used Dynamat before I would recommend you perform your install with our 80 mil product. I'm not trying to upsell you or anything. Most customers who have used Dynamat before have preferred our thicker version.

For a company to tell me that UP FRONT is rare, you call eDead, they say theirs is the best, you call Dynamat they say they are SO good, Chip Foose uses it, you call Fatmat and they say they sell the same product as Dynamat for less because they don't have the celebrity endorsement...
ALL of which is BULL:bs:

Yes, butyl mats like that used in Dynamat MIGHT be THE best solution, but the price is ALWAYS the chink in the chain...

And you CAN use a cheap Home Depot roofing alternative, but those have a REALLY HIGH amount of asphalt, and in any sort of heat, that crap melts and smells like death... They ship from Austin... If ONE person installed this in Texas or Arizona, or new Mexico, and it started to melt like Home Depots garbage alternative, you'd know... The forum would be FULL of crap reviews...

In any case, I will give a FULL review of my install process (will be doing the trunk and doors to start, which I can compare to a car that has Dynamat in the same areas, using the same install procedute.)

:woot: To the company that is upfront, honest, has good customer service, and as a kicker is giving free samples!
Reminds me of the other company on the forum that has only positive feedback... Fast Intentions... (I don't even own their products, LOL)

I'm a little delayed in getting this done with the hurricane (I live in NY 5 minutes outside NYC) but i'm planning on getting it done by the end of the weekend.

Please send me a sample of the liquid-damp sound deadener. I will gladly apply it to the outside of my 370Z rear wheel wells for a true test of its sound deadening in a real car application provided it is design for use in the outside environment.

Thanks and pm back

Any special pricing for 25sqft of the 80mil?

Hey guys...a quick update on my sample

I worked on removing the door panel Saturday and got everything off except this 1 demon bolt behind the plastic "SRS Airbag" piece. Normally i'd run over to my shop and have them remove it real quick but with the current gas shortage I cant afford to do that. I'm going to try and get a shop near my job to do it if i can.

Again sorry for the delay and hopefully this storm coming Wednesday doesn't cause more problems in the area. I'll keep you updated on my project.

PM'd you but have not heard back. I'd be happy to get you on the list to get the sample sent out.

Thursday bump!

NickD 11-09-2012 07:30 AM

So now that my car has been towed off the parkway and out of snow I went to put on winter tires yesterday and got them to remove that last bolt! Which means I'll be installing liqui-damp this weekend!

Just curious, Any concerns or tips for installing in the cold? I know with the sheets it helps to use a heat gun but since this is liquid I'm guessing i can just throw it on?

The cold should only affect drying time. I'd suggest having a fan on it if possible to speed up drying time. But let me know if you run into any issues, you're our guinea pig tester here. :p

speedygreene 11-09-2012 08:42 PM

I am open to testing out the sound deadener. Please pm me the details.

Just put a review on amazon and will put pics on here of the trunk when I finish. Great product, thanks for the sample.

"I just finished the doors on my 370z with a well known sound deadener, but needed to finish my trunk. I decided to try GTMat in the trunk area and was extremely pleased by the ease of use and quality of the product. GTMat was every bit as good as the leading brand-for half the price! It stuck well (even at 50degrees) and was easy to work into the crevaces. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more GTMat or to try their liquid roll on sound deadener. "

Tracie, haven't gotten on the list, but would love to. I've got pictures of the roll installation, but am out of state right now. Will post when I return home.

One question, do you think that the paint would stick to plastic? I'd like to paint the plastic pieces behind the seats in my roadster.

I think our bulk pack size of 36 sq ft will be enough to do both the hatch and the doors. This pack comes in pre-cut sheet sizes of 36in x16in. You can view more details at the links below.

GTMat PRO 50mil

GTMat ULTRA 80mil

It does stick to plastic. I tested it when I did my install :) Just make sure you didnt put any greasy cleaning products on (like armor all). If there is, then get a degreaser and clean it up before applying.
