Question Aftermarket head units/nav question

I recently got a '12 z touring.
But opted not to get the nav package.

Is there a thread on here that has a good list of quality headunits, ranging from cheap to expensive?

from bluetooth support, map package/nav capability, mp3 readability, cd support, dvd support...etc: ie; reading a list of mp3's from a dvd(for big storage)...would be nice if the headunit supported the ID3V1, or ID3V2, so teh names of the song/album/artist are displayed as well...

It all depends on preference of interface, features and how much you want to spend.

Most head units do what your asking for no a days.

I like the kenwood line up, and the new head units from JVC are not bad at all. Alpine's new models will be out soon however could be a little more pricey.

+1........ The Kenwood Excelon DNX9990HD HU is a beast. This is the top of the line HU & you will pay $$$$, but it is WELL WORTH IT.

$1400, I looked back 1 product revision before the 9990HD, and see the Amazon.com: Kenwood DNX6990HD 6.1" Double Din Navigation/DVD Receiver with Bluetooth/HD Radio and Pandora Control for iPhone: Car Electronics

"6990HD" is nearly $600 less, and almost all of the same features are there......
cruthfield review:
Kenwood Excelon DNX6990HD Navigation receiver at Crutchfield.com

Seems like it has perfect rating, and nearly identical featuers to the 9990HD

I got the Kenwood DNX6980 and it has some annoyances: 1) it's sluggish with UI controls, 2) it only supports phone bluetooth telephony. NOT music bluetooth (no A2DP support). I didn't know that until it was installed and I tried to listen to music.

I have an iPod cord plugged into it, though, which I did myself, and it works nicely.
I also have a Kenwood CMOS300 backup cam hooked up to the head unit and that's pretty great for parking/backing up.

What I'm saying is this line of headunits is nice, but my older (way less expensive though) model is limiting. I paid $700 for it from sponsor WickedCAS. They installed the unit, my camera (wired through my car next to hatch release button), steering wheel controls (+$100 parts)

I agree with above. I own the 6990 and the response time is sssssssllllllllooooooooowwwwwwww. Get the point I recently got the 9990HD. Hands down faster and better UI than the 6990. Yes you can get the 6990 for a cheaper price, but you will have to live with the sluggish speed. the 9990HD also looses the voice commands, but I never used them anyway. Wicked has a deal for the 9990HD and I think that Kenwood just came out with a $100 rebate too. I do not consider myself to be a fanboy of Kenwood, rather I did a lot of homework and made a well informed choice for my head unit. I used to be all about Alpine until other brands started stepping up their game.

Here is why I decided I had to have a Kenwood double-din: it uses Garmin for the GPS.

Is everybody forgetting about the Alpine 928 coming out soon? I want as large of a screen as possible, and that model sports an 8" screen.

On Crutchfield, they mentioned this headunit wouldn't fit in a 370z. Would you have to custom fit it?

Wow, if I would have known that I would have bought the 9990 by now.

If one wouldn't have known what?
------

I'm still looking around, and have no clue what model to get. On top of the price of the HU Kit, still have to calculate labor cost (because I have no clue how to install this stuff).

Kenwood Excelon DNX9990HD Navigation receiver at Crutchfield.com does look good, but not sure I want to drop $1300+tax on one HU

All I really want is the ability to have Satellite navigation(voice reading back when to turn, street is coming up etc), the ability to read mp3's raw from a DVD(yes, not a CD), support for ID3V1/ID3V2 tags(for song/artist/album name), and if possible the ability to stream bluetooth audio from the iphone to the HU/bose system in the car.

Other then that, I could care less about other filler / marketing gimmicks.

Under $1000 would be nice

I was referring to the previous post that the Alpine 928 may not fit in the 370Z.

I ended up grabbing a new Kenwood 9990 for $950 shipped. Seems like a good price, hopefully I won't be disappointed about not waiting or the Alpine 928.
