Alternatively, what is the size of speaker for the models that come stock with rear speakers?

The base model doesn't come with any rear speakers (or wiring). The touring package has the bose system and has 4" speakers.

I bought the base model and installed rear speakers. Initially I bought 4" speakers. They didn't fit! I ended up buying 3.5" speakers and they fit the speaker mounting holes and grill perfectly. You will also have to run wires back up to the head unit unless you install an amp.
Take care,
Willie

Thanks guys, that is exactly what I was looking for. I knew I didn't have any rear speakers, but I didn't know what size would fit.

forget rears, get comps in the front (and a sub), or just upgrade the fronts to better full-ranges

I'm doing the full system. Upgrading components up front, adding in rears, new HU, and subs/amps.

Fortunately I can do most of the work myself and already have most of the equipment.

Is there a particular reason that you think this is a better option?

Did you keep the stock stereo?
If so, how much did it cost to add the spaeker?

I was looking to upgarde all speakers, and add 3.5 in the back.

If this is what I want to do what do you think I need to do?
2-4.5
2-1.5
and 3.5 for the rear?
Can the stock handle this?

Just about the cheapest aftermarket stereo is better than this base one. Also you'll need to run wire for the rear speakers as there is none.

I'm not keeping the stock stereo, but it cost me about $225 for the two sets of speakers (6.5" components and 3.5")

I'll look at the stock stereo next week when I take it out (waiting on the pac adapter for steering wheel controls and the ipod adapter to come in) to see if it has speaker out for the rears. If it does have the output you will still have to run the wires.

Does the base unit have outputs for rear speakers?

As I said in another thread
Honestly in top end cars there are no rear speakers because SQ "sound quality" is setup for optimal performance. I own a civic and I have taken the rear speakers out so that way I have no rear fill as they call it. If you listen to it for a few days you will get use to it and it will definitely sound better than 4 channels. Think of it this way artist record there music in 2 channel format so the optimum way to listen to it is threw 2 channels. My setup is going to be my fronts and a rear sub that's all. After thinking about it and listening to it it sounds way better. So in a nut shell do not get rear speakers or worry about it.
