Default Weird radio constant power problem in my Nismo....

I was installing the AVIC X930BT and had it all wired up and it would not turn on. Went to a shop in Virginia and he put power to the red and yellow wire and it turned on. I get home plug it into the harness and it comes on. Lunch break and a dog walk later I go to put all the stuff in, and it won't come on. So I get the meter out and I see 12 volts on the switched wire, but yellow is dead. Plug oem radio into harness and I see about 6 volts to chassis ground on the yellow wire. Unplug radio and yellow wire is dead again. So there is some weird ground problem, and I did a battery off reset too. Why when I came home it worked for a while and then stopped is baffling unless the ecu did some odd thing. So I'm just going to find a good constant 12v source and not use the crutchfield to pioneer connector for that 12 v constant power. Thought I would share this in case anybody else runs into it.

Does the Nismo have the Bose setup? Im pretty sure it does, if thats the case, you're system is factory amplified, I would bet that has something to do with your problem, just my guess though.

No bose. Just bizarre that it worked then two hours later nothing. The switched power comes on fine at 12 volts, but the constatnt power does nothing. I tapped into my dome light to get constant power which is a 10 amp circuit, but that should still be ok as the radio and XM shoud not draw more than 5 amps and the light is only about 2 or so. 12 volts at 10 amps is 120 watts of power. Plus I don't think I'll be playing the radio with the dome light on much. I was going to run off the battery directly but could not find a easy firewall pass through to route the wire.

But see my whole thing is, you shouldnt have to do any of this at all, if you bought a wiring harness that will plug into your factory harness, you would then cut and splice from the radio into the after market harness that you purchase wire for wire, color for color.. it should be that simple.

Thats exactly what I did, use the crutchfield connector to the radio harness, all soldered and wired correctly and check with meter for continunity. My OEM 12 v constant source was just dead at the OEM connector itself. Bad pin or bad wire someplace in the OEM loom. things like that do happen. The switched power works fine. But its all running now and all good. I am a EE with 20+ years of working on patriot systems, ATC systems, satellite, and all kinds stuff. Have taken them all apart and back again....I will realize though that it does take skill to do a proper stereo install ,that has a different skill set than ripping the guts out of a nexrad radar. I'm just glad it works, till I route a wire right to the battery. XM and iPOd work, so does Nav.

Have you tried pulling both fuses for the radio and re-seating?? I have had to do
to this a couple of times, the contact was just not good enough.

I pulled the fuse and it was fine and I made sure it seated properly. I think it was a bad wire or pin in in the oem loom.

Hi
What I did was to open the door so the dome light was on and pulled fuses till it went out, then I put the power wire on the fuse. The labeling on the fuse cover panel does not say dome light. I don't remember which was it was.
