Question 370Z Sub Box Feeler

I am creating a mold for a fiberglass sub box that would be replace the foam piece located in front of the space tire in the rear hatch area of a 370Z.

The sub box would include space for a small amp and 2-3 6.5" subs or 1-2 8" subs. The existing foam piece (see attached pic) would be removed and replaced (drop-in) with this sub box. The height would vary depending upon the sub size. The height could flush with the rear hatch floor for 6.5" subs; otherwise, will have to extend up above the floor a couple of inches to clear a 8" sub.

This is an initial feeler to gauge interest. I will give interior specs to properly size your sub's XMAS and other sub spec requirements later. PM back if interested.

i've thought about doing 3 or 4 8" in that spot, sounds like a good idea, maybe look at a vented box maybe?

I would get with someone that does custom fabrications like that, and have them do measurements.

8" sub will not fit flush with the hatch floor. This area is only 7" wide and 7" deep. If you raise the sub box above the hatch floor a couple of inches or less, then you can install a 8" sub.

JL Audio 6W3v3 will fit with no problem flush with the hatch floor.

There are some 8 inch woofers that you could fit depending on their air volume required and their mounting depth.

I'd be interested if the price is right. Personally I would like to see the box rise above the rear floor board (maybe to the height of the bar back there). It would be nice to get the box painted to match exterior etc. and to show off the craftsmanship.

The sub box would likely be somewhat lower than the aluminum cross bar. This would give approximately 8" interior height. This interior height should be adequate for a JL audio 8w7-3 sub (one of the larger 8" subs on the market and would be sized for its recommended enclosure volume being 0.875cu.ft.).

Personally, I am only adding a Alpine SWR-843D 8" sub so I only need the height for the diameter of the sub.

Regarding the caftsmanship of the sub box; it will likely be fiberglass with a basa core to make it light and keep the interior volume as large as possible.

Default Sub Box Feeler Update

So, based upon the responds, I will send back a few design concepts of the initial sub box. The idea is to remove the foam piece located in the rear hatch area and replace it with a sub box. The sub box would be designed to accomodate 8" diameter subs; the largest sub being a JS Audio 8w7-3 8" sub. I will email the initial interior volume (cu.ft.) to gauge the necessary enclosure space specifications.
