I'm interested. Is that the 6.5 version?

Fiberglass Sub Box
Others have inquired about having two 6.5" subs which could be accomodated. The maximum size that would likely fit in an upfire mounted configuation is 8" depending, on the interior volume needed tuned for the specific sub's acoustics.

Sounds good...now I have to add some more sound deadening material to the driver's side panel under the small side window!

Here is my setup, I was going to have bigs install it all for me because he's awesome. But I just couldn't get time to come down for him to install and I couldn't handle listening to the stock radio anymore. The soundstream amp turned out to be a tad taller that I would have like. But you still have room for a sub enclosures. I also made another carpet for the rear hatch so i could save the factory. It's not 100% done.
2 6'5 Polx db651 2 Pioneer TS-SW841 SOUNDSTREAM STL6.620 under the plate. Last edited by sceptre155; 05-02-2012 at 08:18 AM. |

Just curious,in the pic, are the speakers enclosured (vented or sealed) in a speaker box? If so, what's the interior cu. ft. for the pioneer speakers and interior cu.ft. for the Polk db551 speakers? Where did you mount the amp? FYI: Nissan dealer price on the trunk mat is $105 US. |

So like others I wanted to keep weight down. I used a 3/4 chunk of birch plywood for the plate. The amp is mounted on bracket cut from the same material and bolted to the two 7/16 bolts coming up through the floor. Smack dab in the middle of the space. So right now With the 3/4 bracket and the height of the amp I only have 1/2 between the subs and the amp. I may make another bracket from some thinner material, or I may just make the sub enclosures out of some epoxy fiberglass I have left over from working on my scarab. So as of right now they are all running free air. I've been keeping it turned down till I get time to enclose the subs. I'll leave the 6'5 running free air I imagine. If I remember right, I'm not sending anything lower then 80 hertz to them. Unless someone tells me they sound better then they already do enclosed. 105 bucks is cheaper then I thought it would have been. I have 15 bucks in material and 20 minutes in time on the one i made. So not all bad. I just need to finish the edges.

Off-topic: Is your boat a 38 foot Wellcraft Scarab? I had one myself with twin supercharged 540 big block engines back in the day. Nice offshore boat. |

I was going to weigh the plate before I mounted the speakers but forgot. The plate is done for the most part. All I did was wrap it in the same felt I made the truck mat from. I want to say the plate weighed right around 5 pounds.. The bracket for the amp, maybe 2 pounds. I went with the 3/4 plate to give me just a tad more room for the amp and so that I could keep the 6'5 speakers out towards the outer edges. The speaker grills made them just a tad to big to fit.
Monster boat man... Mines only a 32ft with twin 454 magnums. Crushing waves is the best... ok maybe more like skipping across the top heheeh. I recently sold my Raptor, and the scarab is next. I love boating.... But man... gas prices are melting a hole in my pocket. A guy down the road as a 44ft with triple 502's... I can't even imagine... But if you have a 150k+ boat you probably don't care. |
