Composite Fiberglass Sub Box

Post up your top sub box trim ideas.

I am thinking of black speaker cloth over the sub area and black matt material over the dead corner spaces. An access panel in similar black trim over a amp area. I may consider smoke color lexan with a Z emblem cover plate housing the amp area.

Sub Box Options

I'd be interested if the price is right. Personally I would like to see the box rise above the rear floor board (maybe to the height of the bar back there). It would be nice to get the box painted to match exterior etc. and to show off the craftsmanship.

Too early on the price it all depends upon the price of the materials and my time. I am not that interested in making money on it, just making a sub box that fellow 370Z owners could use without removing the space tire, etc.

Materials alone are expensive.

haitech 12-11-2011 09:45 PM

affordable is nice

I know the horrors of fiberglass, the labor and time is intensive and the cost is high.. but once the project is done, its usually very very nice!

In my experience constructing RFP boats, a sub box is easy... no stress points to be really concern about. Of course, the key to a good sub box is the hertz level it is design to. Yes, the cost is more that a MDF sub box just for the material.

I have not been impressed with the manufacturing of the typical fiberglass constructed sub boxes. This is something I enjoy doing.

Dude, I love fiberglass work, it just kept adding up... before I knew it, I was hundreds of dollars in materials, and paint/ air brushing/ clear... just pricey!

Speaker Grill Cloth Source

I am looking for a source of speaker grill cloth to cover my sub woofer and amp/signal processor rack.

Also, looking for a source of binding posts. The local Radio Shack does not stock the screw down type.

The sub box is in its early stage of construction. Once it is finish I will post pics. My set-up is with one 8" sub woofer located on the driver's side and the amp and signal processor located on the passenger side.

Additional sub woofers could be accomodated at the expense of location the amp elsewhere.

Seems like you guys are going thru allot of trouble for a 8in sub, when you can fiberglass the inside the spare tire and put 6,8,10,12,13.5 sub plenty of room back there and you can keep it flush so you don't lose any space.:tiphat:
