Default Removing Radio? - Bose w/o Nav (Touring w/o Nav)

Looking at removing (not replacing) my stock radio unit and going without audio at all. My car came as Touring w/o Nav (so it has the Bose radio setup, but a cubby in place of the nav screen). The radio and the climate controls (which I don't want to lose at this time) seem to share a faceplate.

Has anyone done a downgrade of this before, maybe to replace the radio with an aftermarket? Can you get the faceplate from Nissan for the the base model (just faceplate for the AC controls, leaving a double-din open area above), and swap it in easily?

Just take the head unit out and put the dash back together. There is a sticky on how to remove the dash.

There are probably hundreds of threads on this... use the search.

You won't lose anything, you need a dash kit and wiring harnesses.

Again try searching the forum.

No he will not need the harnesses because he does not want any radio.

The faceplate is what I'm concerned about. It's a single-unit faceplate that covers both the head unit and the climate controls. What I want to know is whether I can buy the *other* faceplate from the base version, which just covers the climate controls, and fit that onto my car when the head unit is removed....

I haven't decided yet, most likely nothing for now. Just going to strip out the radio, the speakers, the amp in the rear (the sub is already gone), and all of the associated wiring I can get to easily. I hardly ever listen to audio in the car anymore anyways, and this is just part of its very slow evolution away from being my daily driver.

Just make a plastic piece to cover the opening or use two single din cubbys.

Oh I see... no radio huh?

You could always have CarbonElement wrap the Metra kit in carbon fiber to cover gap...

I'm not sure I would personally do all this tho.

Ah yeah I finally stumbled on the Metra and Schose kits, they're *way* cheaper than ordering the factory base-model faceplate. I went with Schose because Amazon can ship it to me arriving tomorrow (this kit: Scosche NN1665B single DIN - Scosche Ships New Dash Kit for Nissan 370Z ), and then find/make a cover for the other din slot, or something. Maybe find another little cubby for it.

Wstar, a good idea for you is to buy a screen (around 200 bucks) which can mount where the radio is and then you can run a Camp II type system.
The camp II is light and can be mounted anywhere, and will allow you to read more of the system while you track.

Actually I'm thinking about putting in a Traqmate + realtime display eventually, but I've got time to think about that. Traqmate TraqDash Complete

That looks good, but a bit pricey.
You get a GPS logger with output, I would like to see that plus a OBII connection so it reads it all and works together.
