Lightbulb Potential Setup, experienced audio members please drop knowledge on my face!

Ok I live in Atlanta and stopped in at two different shops. Both have good names and good history. The only difference between the two is one will sell me Focal, and the other Hertz. I have a feeling I want the Focal setup more, so I will share that with you and hope you can guide me with advice.

Kenwood DNX8120 [double din all in one unit]

Focal 165krx3 [3 way speaker setup 6.5" going in door, 3" mids going on top of dash in corners closest to windshield, tweeters going in pillars]

JL Audio 12w3v3-4 [12" sub going in rear hatch spare tire enclosure]

Alpine pdx-5 [5 channel amp going in rear hatch spare tire enclosure]

--------------------------------------------

My other option is going with the Hertz MLK3 3way system. I honestly think the Focal sounded better but it could have been the music playing on it or just that the sound board was better.. My questions are which speakers should I go with, and is my setup and placement ideal?

I like Focal, they make great home speakers and car as well. Are you going to remove the spare tire to make the sub work?

Yes I am going to remove the spare, I eventually am going to upgrade wheels and tires to a bigger size so the spare will be useless at that point.

DNX9140 is the successor to the DNX8120. I have a hunch you're going to need to do some mods to get the 3" midrange to fit in place of the OEM tweeters.

Wat part of Atlanta are you from? Which shops did you go to? I think your on the right track. another good set of components to take a look at are the flagship momo's they are CRISP yet they carry a full body of sound! One of the best components I have seen on the market while at a decent price. As far as subs go you can fit 2 x 12's in the spare tire area and mount the amps behind the seats or the front part of the hatch allowing you to keep your lugage space

IMHO, I would ditch the idea of either one. Unless your stuck on those then it's cool, but there are so many other companines and prices better then either.

which companies would you suggest for 3 way components. Recently, I looked into a company called DLS who are from Scandinavia. Have you heard of them?

They make a set of 3 way components with a 6.5" woofer, 2.5" mid and 1.1" tweeter. The mid should fit well in the dash I saw that a 3" takes modification.

I am not sure if you're aware but there is a DDX814, pretty sure that there is a DNX8140 but not too sure on that since i'm going to get the DDX814 first and upgrade it with Navi later.

I guess it would depend on your price range and exactly how loud or crisp you want to have your set-up. I know a lot of people think MTX is crap but that's because they buy baseline sh*t from them. I love all of their comp stuff though. I personally have MTX 3 ways installed in my car (5x7s all around) and those things are clear as day! You can get em for around $100 - $130 a set. The MTX is a good medium for loudness and quality of sound. JL is great for overall sound quality as well as Alpine. I have a few friends that swear by MB Quart as well.

The DLS speakers are good, but the down they wont fit into your 370Z becasue the 2.5" mid is a dome mid not a cone midrange. The dash grill wouldnt fit back into its location.
