Trying to resolder the tweeter is a bad idea, the wire attached from the factory is sufficient for it's length. Like 90 said just extend from the factory wire end there on your new 14gauge and that will do fine. You should solder the woofer connection unless there is a set screw, you don't want the wires coming loose when closing your doors several hundred of times. Soldering may seem like an easy process but it's not always straight forward, if your not experienced with it do some youtubing first to see what a good solder joint and a cold solder joint looks like. It can really kill your install if not done correctly.

Thanks for the tip! I have solder before; but it has been awhile. What is your throughts on cutting the focal tweeter wire shorter and soldering a 14 gauge wire to it if I extend the tweeter wire back to the rear hatch area where I plan to located the crossovers?

What ever works for ya, an extra 12" of 18 gauge wire is not gonna hurt any. Use some heat shrink tubing also to keep it clean, and trouble free.
