Default Questions about audio setup.

I currently do not own a Z, but I am in the market for one and searching daily for the right one to pop up.

In the mean time.. I like to have a plan of what I want to do to the car. I keep reading of how horrible the stock sound system is so I will be upgrading all of that first.

I want to use the sub and amp I have in my current car, which is a JL 12w6 and JL 500/1. I had planned to go with the zenclosure 12in single sub box, but at the same time I wouldn't mind something that would replace the spare tire. I'm just not real sure what my options are for a sub like the 12w6. I know they suggest a 1.25^3 box for it.

I will be purchasing everything else, and I kind of want to stick with JL Audio all the way around unless someone has a good reason not to. [I just like the idea of everything matching]

But here is what I have in mind for the rest of the car.

- JL Audio C5-650 components
- JL Audio C2-350X for the rear [I know some say you shouldn't have any speakers in the rear of the Z, but I want them there to have that options. I can turn them off if I decide I don't care for them.]
- JL Audio 300/4 amp
- Pioneer AVIC-X920BT head unit [I already have a Pioneer XM unit]

I guess the main thing I want is your opinion on this setup... what you might change... And also if there would be a better option than the Zenclosure box.

Thanks in advanced!
- Parker

*edited* - changed the C5-525x to C5-650 since they will fit.

I had that sub in my 370 and in the Zenclosure box. It hits plenty hard and it sounds great. I was using the JL HD 900/5 amp. I think you could get pretty creative with a nice fiberglass enclosure but the box is a great looking set up for little dollars. Really doesn't take up much room in the hatch like you would think.

Me and fiberglass never work out... haha, I've tried before and its just not something I am good at.

Glad to know that the Zenclosure sounds good with the 12w6, If I go that route [which I probably will] I will add some poly fill inside to help make up for the bit of room lost.

The one thing that I don't care much for with the Zenclosure is the sub is in plan view letting people know what I have.. and they could steal. Though I will have the windows tinted.

There is a box on here that fits the tire well, just do a quick search, as for the 525's i would look at getting some 6.5", other wise nice set up.
Here, Wicked cas 370z stealth magic box subwoofer enclosure sub box

I've seen that box before, it's only .8ft^3 though, made to fit in the middle of the spare tire.

Will 6.5's fit fine? If so I will no doubt change to them.

6.5 will fit no problem, the base modle is 6.5's, the bose one is 6x9's...you will have to make or buy a plate either way.

So now I will go with JL Audio C5-650's

Realized I had also made a mistake earlier going with the JL Audio C5-525x's because they are coaxial which is not what I want.

Also, Dynomat... I have never used it in previous vehicles.

Do you suggest it? Does it make a difference? And about how much does it genereally require to do a Z?

i would, and a few guys on here have used sound damping of one brand or another. i would say 50 sq ft would be enough, for most people, i used more, but i have my reasons. I went with Streetwires brand DS3030 on the floor, 2 kits IIRC and a DS3015 for the rest. If you want to check out my album there is a fair bit of pics.

you will be better off getting a JL AUDIO XD 700/5 meant to run components and sub. 300/4 will fall short on sub channel if you try to run a sub with it.

700/5 is a 5 channel with 5th channel dedicated for sub.

I would run the 4 channel bridged to 2 channel. plenty of power to your mids.

And run the 3.5" via deck power.

Let me know if I can get you any of the equipment.

He has a 500/1 for the sub, by the looks of the start of the post.

Doesn't that make it a bit of a hassel if you need to get to them?
