post deleted...Sheesh! I don't know what happened. I should have refreshed my browser before my last post as there had been about 10 other responses that came up since the post I wanted to reply to. Sorry.

I already have all the 24pin connectors for camera kits.

Adding the bypass kit later will be very easy and they do plug in to different places so not then end of the world to do separately. I agree there is interest in the bypass kits but also some are very keen to get their hands on the camera kits.

I also want to get some input on what you guys want. On the GT-R I used a remote because I didn't really have anywhere to put the 3 or 4 switches (or didn't want to). I would really like to work with a few of you on the best solution. I see a few potential offerings
1) For those happy to cut and splice wires then I can just write-up a free DIY guide
2) A plug and play harness so no cutting of original wires is required and you use you own switches
3) A plug and play harness with switches
4) A plug and play solution using the remote
I am wondering if we can't get a solution in 3A, where we use only one switch to bypass the NAV in motion and leave the DVD wire grounded all the time. If the DVD wire has no other effect other than to disable the DVD feature in motion it should be irrelevant to being grounded all the time. That would mean a single switch that could be placed in the console centre position. Centre position for the people with touring model or base as that spot is open on both. A factory style push button switch would be awesome and even better if it had an amber light to acknowledge the bypass mode...
thoughts?

That is a good idea. Would you not be interested in the backup camera bypass? I quickly put the following together for anyone wanting to take the complete DIY approach.
https://docs.google.com/document/pub...dJDtKoKnP54Qfs

Based on what I'm hearing what I could provide is a plug and play harness to achieve the same results but with NO cutting or tampering with any original wiring. The dilemma is that although the parts aren't that expensive the harnesses are very time consuming to make. I therefore need to to think about the price and get a sense of if people would be interested.

I like your thinking and, yes, a switch that worked like the seat heaters that allowed a forward position to bypass NAV lock and a backwards position to engage rearview camera would be a perfect solution. If we could use a similar switch as the seat heaters I would definitely be in for that solution!

thats more bdl99's territory than mine.

As far as installing them at the same time, it would save a few minutes, but really the hard part of the camera install is running the wires throughout the car, actually pulling the dash out is just a matter of un screwing a few thing and pulling them out, that part takes only a few minutes. so basically, if you installed the camera kit already, and wanted to add the bypass kit after, it would be very easy and not time consuming.

Count me in for 2010 Option A, assuming camera pricing is reasonable.

Osiris, I went back and looked it up and you have to follow 2 DIYs to get it done. First look at rarwz's post on page 2 of the thread DIY: Rearview Camera & DVD for info on taking the dash and radio apart to access the wiring harness. Then switch to terrycs's and toc2rta's post on this thread Nav/Dvd hack for 2010 for which wire to ground for the parking break (it also shows the VSS wire you can interrupt with a switch for the nav bypass). Make sure to follow the pictures for the 2010s if that is what you have and not the 2009s.

Mize, my DIY for running the wires in a Roadster is here: Backup Camera installed in Roadster

I wouldn't mind having it in 2 separate kits for the sake of time/convenience. And with respect to the bypass kit I would be fine with either option 3 or 4.

I like the idea of hard switches so I can visually see if a setting is ON/OFF and also I don't have to worry about hitting a button in my pocket by accident. The downside I can see to hard switches (especially us guys with the heated touring seats) is the lack of a clean install location. I suppose I could recess a switch board in the glove box opening so that the passenger would have to control the bypasses...this would prevent me from unsafe driving habits as wall.

i got 2 more responses over the past few days, i will update the list when i get home from work. i apologize to all you guys who were ready to go, but unfortunately i can't get anything moving until 15 people respond i could try and talk to them once we get 10, but 8 out of 16+ initial respondents is dissappointing.
