Default Depth Behind Cubby

I have a few ideas for a mod floating around in my head while I'm sitting at work. I have a base model (so no navigation) and I want to do something a little more interesting with the cubby area. After reading many posts here, I realize that there is not enough space back there for a full aftermarket head unit. What I'm hoping for is that someone knows roughly how much depth is back there. +1 if anyone has actually measured it.

If nobody comes up with an answer, you may be able to get an idea of how much space there is by looking at Nissan's drawings in the FSM or one of the online parts places (eg, Courtesy Parts).

Also, it only takes a few minutes to remove it and measure for yourself.

Yeah, I figured someone would say that. That was my plan when I get home, if no one happened to know off the top of their head before then. I'll report back if no one answers by then.

I didn’t take measurements but the back of the cubby butts up to the metal plate.
Probably 2.5 inches down the center but not much room at all on the sides.
