also, to do something that big, id have to have a scanner so i can be able to make a 3d printed/injection molded part. but down the road, this would be a great idea. been sick lately too. should be able to test fit the nexus 7 and ipad mini 4 this week. |

Printed out the iPad Mini 4 and Nexus 7 2013 and the fit around the tablets was great.
Minor issue with the iPad Mini 4. I have to relocate the bottom bolts because it's interfering with the A/C vents. But, here are some pics for the Nexus 7 2013 http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/...psy9chtgul.jpg http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/...pstdzzg0u9.jpg Might change the Window opening on the Nexus 7 since there are no hardware buttons, like on the iPad Mini 4 or the Galaxy Tab S2 |
Nice, that looks sweet. How much is it costing to print the Nexus version?

To the OP, I was doing a very similar project but will be mounting a 10" tablet in portrait mode. I will be 3d scanning the dash piece along with the Metra kit so i can make a face for the tablet. If you are interested and willing to help, let me know and i will send you the 3d scan of the dash piece (the one with the vents) as soon as i get it done. |

I like the version where it is behind the cubby box that looks like the nav system because i have one like this last pic you have and sometimes the sun blocks the visibility of the tablet, so i like the style of the nav system that is behind so that that doesnt bother me and looks more stock imo.

I couldn't account for the same design concept because I took the cubby out and measured it to set-up my design in my CAD program (SOLIDWORKS for those wondering). Since it's really a 3 piece design (the face plate for the radio, the cubby, and the center console), it's hard to accurately account for the design unless I had a 3D Scanner or if I made custom fabrication combining all 3. When people are designing things like car parts, they are designing it in reference to each component (or Top Down Design Method) to make sure there is a proper fit. And from every version I've seen, with the design you described, they end up using small screens (most likely around 7" max). Not sure if it's because of screens they can get or if the top portions of the radio face plate, the pieces i say to remove, are in the way. It is something to keep in mind, if I make a version 2.0 of this design though. |
Ok keep us posted hehe

This looks like a great mod

I might also just start selling the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 first and then come out with the iPad Mini 4 version after. Since that's the only one I have to finish the design for. Going to PM Mods in the mean time. |
Trips said AK370Z has to help out, but he's forwarded my questions so hopeufully I hear back soon!

Definitely interested. I'd even purchase the S2 8.0 so I could make this work. Hope you get the go ahead from the Admins.

I'd be interested in the Nexus 7 version.
