I was under the impression that 2009s did not have that feature and it was added later. You might have to go to an aftermarket head unit.

Not if it doesn't have that feature available for that year, no.

Check the Owner's Manual and/or FSM - link in my sig.

IIRC, Chuck33079 is right about it not being available until later. But not 100% sure - with a CD changer in my 2009, I didn't try to play from my cell phone.

Even if you swaped a 2011-2012 head unit to my 2009 headunit?

At that point, why not add a far better aftermarket unit? The OEM stuff isn't really that great unless you pick up a used one for next to nothing.

Good luck removing your navigation completely and have everything functioning correctly. The one guy who was actually successful at removing it is still trying to make everything work correctly. Chances are it will never work correctly unless you replace pretty much the whole harness and a lot of different parts from the car.
If you have Navi from factory you are pretty much stuck with it unless you don't care about some thing not working properly.

True, I was operating under the impression the OP did not have the nav setup.

If you have a 09 navigation then you are ****** because there's no way to make that unit stream music through Bluetooth.
The only answer is to do as I did and replace the whole thing for an 2011 system and then you have all the goodies with a way better screen and all.
The problem is that it's not a plug and play thing, you have to do re wiring and modifying harnesses in order to do it. This wouldn't be recommended unless you have good experience wiring or have somebody who will do it for you... other than a shop of course which will charge the **** out of you for it.

I have a 09 with NAV. No Bluetooth music.

To get Bluetooth music would require a hardware update. BTW map updates on the 09s are not done by DVD. It requires the use of a diagnostic computer and has to be done at the dealer. Total cost for a map update $250+. Factory NAV went to DVD updates in 2010.

This is far from true. Multiple guys have removed their factory NAV and went aftermarket with no issues. Now a few guys have wired in the standard HVAC controls wrong but that was easily fixed.

DIY - Nav System Conversion

Not the only answer. I would suggest going after market. Better options for less money. Not to mention better sound.

I will agree 09 owners got screwed on the factory NAV. That's why I'm getting rid of my NAV system later this year.

Mmmm. Everything I've read so far has glitches plus you lose all the screen capabilities. But I guess I could be mistaken as I haven't read every single thread about it.
Besides this I think the Navigation package is the best looking for the car. Everything looks like it has a purpose and the way it should from factory. I personally prefer everything looking like it came like that from Nissan.
Of course though, that is just my opinion. You can get way better sound if you upgrade your speakers, sub and amp... maybe you can get focals and then you are all set.
My conversion to a 2011 Navi system was 550 CAD plus my time so I don't think it was a bad deal considering brand new head units are way more expensive than that.

What screen capabilities are you talking about? I haven’t heard of any glitches. All the guys I’ve seen that have deleted their factory NAV and went aftermarket haven’t had any issues. Unless they wired it in wrong.

I can understand wanting an OEM look. It does look nice. For me the factory NAV, even the newer ones, wasn't cutting it for me anymore functionality. Also I am unwilling to pay for map updates anymore. I really want Apple Carplay and better functionality between the HU and my phone in general. For now I'm just upgrading my HU. I scored a new Alpine iLX-007 for $370 that I will be installing where the factory NAV screen goes later this summer.
