Default Blind Spots and Back Up Cams

Not a country Song...

We all know how bad our car is with blind spots and backing up. I am looking to get the Kenwood 6960 and want to know if anyone has a back up cam and are they worth it. I understand it wont help much with blind spots while driving, but are they worth it for backing. Also does it help seeing cars coming from the left or right as your backing?

Thanks as always...

Every man a wildcat! Sorry, saw your avatar and had to comment.

I test drove one with a backup camera and I wish that I mine had it. I am totally paranoid that I am going to back into someone.

It would depend entirely on what camera you got and where you put it. The cmos 300 has multiple views, the viewing angle is something like 195 degrees or something crazy like that.

Mine is useless... it's not aimed very well and I don't know how to get it to stay on the view I want, and I haven't wanted to be bothered to fix it.
Maybe I'll take a crack at it after all the snow melts, but I doubt it.

Here's some info for you regarding a recent group buy. There's a difference between 2009 and 2010. Even though the group buy is over, there's enough info in this thread for you to follow up and get the components you need:

Thanks for this, I need to look at this post.

I haven't really had a chance to drive my 40th yet, but just parking her in my underground garage had me sweating, never realized how bad the blindspots and rearview were lol....

You'll get used to it. Use the rear wheel well to judge side distance through your side mirrors. Have those side mirrors adjusted to see as far out the sides as possible, yet still able to track something from the rearview mirror to side mirror seamlessly. The back up cam will come in really handy though...I installed mine over Christmas, and will try it out come spring.

I've got the CMOS300 with my 9960 and I love it. I generally keep mine on the vertical split screen (there is also a dual horizontal split) when backing up and it works well.

Scroll down towards the bottom of this post and you'll see how the views look.

the blindspots aren't that bad for regular driving if you adjust the mirrors correctly, but backing up can get kind of dicey, generally involving a lot of hope and luck haha. i recommend the kenwood cmos 300, it's what i have on my car. the viewing angle and picture are exceptional. also i know for a fact its durable as well. i wash my car as if it wasn't there and haven't had any issues .

CMOS 300. I have it with the Kenwood dnx9960 and I love it. The camera is set up perfectly so that if I go to the vertical split screen I can see cars coming from both sides when backing up. Pretty sweet.

Kinda ot but I found many of my problems were because the reverse wire and the dedicated camera input were used. In the manual for the CMOS 300 it says not to connect the reverse wire if your headunit has a dedicated camera input, which the 9960 does. Camera still turns on when I go into reverse but reverse wire is def not hooked up anymore. Hope that helps!

I just ordered the DNX6960 and the CMOS 200 this morning. I'll install it all next week and report back.

CMOS 200 is all you need and it looks great on the Nav. Hard to see it from behind the car too.
