<3 Gear diff. Clutch diffs have a lot of setup involved how aggressive is yours set to be, it should be on the less or even least aggressive engagement setting for road courses. How are your stack springs, plates active, etc setup?
Regardless there's no way you should be melting anything with a diff somethings defiantly wrong.

As for being fed up with the Z, there are very few cars that you can go from the dealer to the track with no more then a fluid change and be a great track car and non of them start at 30k. Suspension mods are one of the easiest mods to make your car worse, which is why I left mine for last. IMO this car only needs cooling, brakes, sticky tires, and a stiff front sway bar to make it a great starting track car.
