Default Brand new Continental DW and it blows up!

Follow-up to this thread: My Z is on crutches!

So, got four brand new Continental ExtremeContact DW yesterday. Discount Tire ordered and installed them! On my way to work this morning, front-right tire just explodes. I was probably going about 65-70mph. Scary as ****! Luckily, there were no vehicles next to me. They are supposedly "investigating" the cause. Road was clean so it couldn't have been any foreign object. Wheel is ok!

Bloody hell!
I've just installed the same tires, from tire rack too.

Please update us when they've finished their investigating.

Glad you're ok.

That is scary! That happened to my brother on some Falkens.
Usually when the sidewall separates from the tread like that its due to driving on the wheel while flat/low.
Hopefully discount tire is taking care of you!

Whats production date? Maybe a new batch is defective. I'd also check pressure. Make sure they're not at like 80psi.

im on my 3rd set of Conti DW's and have DD'ed and tracked them and have not had a issue. Most likely install error over defect. Conti has good quality control

Thanks all! Of the four tires I got, only one did that. So, either it was defective or it was not inflated properly. Discount Tires have given me a hefty discount on the purchase of four tires. They've ordered another front tire. It should get here sometime next week. I really hope it was just a manufacturing defect because I was loving the tires for the first 20 miles I drove on them.

So lucky the tire didn't rip the bumper and fender. That's just crazy.

sometimes at discount we had to over inflate to around 80 psi to get the bead to pop on the rim. Then deflate back to whatever the tire should be at 32-35 psi etc etc.

Maybe someone forgot. Were they busy when they mounted them?
