On my first Z I had H&R DRS. When I uninstalled them to sell the car, I had to knock the studs out in the same manner I did the OEM... they were in there pretty good. It sounds like it might just be an out of spec knurl.

The rest were fine. They were in there pretty solid. What exactly is an out of spec "knurl"?

The knurl is the thick, rolled part of the stud that is pressed into the hub. If the diameter is too small or the grooves are damaged that could result in a loose fitment.

Sometimes when you use an impact gun, the stud can spin a little before they start to go in & strip the hub. It's best to tap the studs in IMO. Make sure the stud is fully seated.

This ^^^

An impact gun can also stretch the stud.

Best to either hammer or press.
