Wheel Spacer Experiences.

Just curious to those that use wheel spacers, Did you have any problems, vibration, breakage, ect? I have a set of H&R DRS 20's for all corners, but have been a little hesitant as there is a mixed bag of reviews. I like my sport rims & wish to keep them, so not really considering a wheel upgrade.
If you have had problems if you could please state the type of wheel spacers, size & types of problems you have experienced.

Thanks guys I think this will be help to others on the fence as well :tiphat:

Felix808 I had extreme reluctance going with spacers because of honest feedback and horror stories. But the sunken in tires was driving me insane so I took the plunge. Essentially I think it all boils down to proper installation. I read a post where a member has stated that they ALL vibrate at some point. I'm hoping that is not true. 3 months later and 4k miles and no vibration and look still leaves me speechless! I always get them inspected before a road trip just for peace of mind tho. I will post when a wheel falls off!

And yes stud replacements;)

MX52Z 12-27-2012 12:30 PM

I'm kind of on the fence too. I'd love the wider stance but I'm wondering about unsprung weight affecting performance. Also curious if spacing the front wheels out beyond original spec would make the Z tramline along ruts.

gaveup 12-27-2012 03:43 PM

Have had 15mm front and 20mm on the rear for over a year (H&R with replacement studs for all 4). No problems what so ever.

Kevin@RAD 12-27-2012 04:15 PM

Using DRS-style (extended studs) spacers from H&R will be the better route, compared to using DRM-style (studs built into the spacer). It's a more solid connection between the wheel and the hub.

axmea? 12-27-2012 09:07 PM

Had them for three months now and no issues. I have the stud replacement using stock rays.

chrischhorn 12-27-2012 09:34 PM

I have the stud replacements and I drive my car HARD! Hit corners heavy and they feel great. No complaints from me!

It is all in the installation ,I buy Z1 spacers and the two things I do to avoid a problem is a very thin piece of tape around the hub where the spacer sits to remove any sloppy fit and two tighten the wheel before you put the car back on the ground ,vibration free to well above the posted speed limit.:hello:

DEpointfive0 12-27-2012 10:16 PM

Agree, it's 100% in the installation... But I do believe the bolt on studs are safer... Just my opinion

Felix 808 12-28-2012 01:17 AM

Thanks for everyone's comments :tiphat: Let's keep them coming

I agree with you there. You could have a broken stud at the hub & never know it until you removed the wheel. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/smilies/idea.gifhttp://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/smilies/piss.gif That' why I bought the DRS Stud replacement type ;)

Wow after close to 300 views only 23 people voted
Anyway with over 90% positive for users, looks like I'm going to open them up & put them on in a couple of weeks when I get some time. We'll let you know when I get a test ride in.

Thank you again for all your comments & votes :tiphat:

Brother, they're 10000000% safe if you or your installer isn't... Retarded

If you have any issues or questions when installing them, give me a heads up.
I might be able to drive up one weekend too and give you some help if you have any issues (right off the bat I recommend you sand the hubs and use a bit of anti seize lube [I only like gray one, not that copper crap])

Hey DEpointfive0, Thanks for the offer. Sent/ Sending you a PM :tiphat:

20mm H&R DRM (one piece style) for all four corners on my Z. They look awesome. Zero complaints. Also, I'm running 245's in the front and 285's in the rear on Swift springs, no rubbing.

OMGWTFBBQ 01-04-2013 10:21 AM

30mm Project Kics spacers in the rear. No problems at all.

kenchan 01-04-2013 01:56 PM

been running both types in the past and the bolt-ons are just as good and safe. get quality spacers.

i use spacers from fic, kics, eibach, h&r.

Waiz 01-04-2013 02:57 PM

4.5 years, 55,00 miles and zero problems on my H&R 20mm's

I do suggest you check the torque specs on your lugs regularly though. I check them at least once a month

Z1 spacers, i had 20/25 (stud replacement in front) honestly forgot I had spacers except for when I would admire the flush ness.

Well The backs have been on & running nice. http://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/drivingskid.gif Liking how it looks. Not sure if I am going to do the fronts or not. Going to run just the backs for a while as it looks fine to me. Plus I figure I don't need the fronts throwing road grime down the side if the car. ;)

Thanks all :tiphat:

20mm on the front will throw crap on your car... 10-15mm should be ok

I disagree, especially if you are dropped at all. No sling issues whatsoever on 20mm's.

I'm on Swifts & plan on keeping stock tire size in front.

Hotrodz 01-11-2013 09:01 PM

No issues for me. 15mm H&Rs all four corners and Tein springs! Go lo and wide and enjoy the ride!!!!

Nism0 01-30-2013 04:35 PM

I am on powertrixs bolt-on 25mm rear and WAS on 20mm front. The vibration and handling was so bad that I recently removed the 20mm spacers from the front, and now it handles great. I miss the wide look in the front though =/ .

cheshirecat 01-31-2013 04:10 PM

Get some H&R spacers instead. The manufacturer *does* matter.

Nism0 01-31-2013 09:42 PM

I'll try them out. Sadly I can't sell my powertrix spacers on the forum since I just knocked them, haha.

Bandit_Kaine 02-01-2013 07:53 AM

I had the ichiba 15mm bolt on spacers in the rear and they were crap. One of the studs broke off after just a couple of weeks, then a few weeks later the spacer actually cracked and broke into 2 pieces.. luckily i had to take the wheel off and noticed.

I've switched to Z1 stud replacement since and so far so good, they look like better quality then the ichibas and the stud replacements give you more peace of mind.

edub370 02-01-2013 10:24 PM

On the opposite side of the above review, I'm running ichiba 15mm bolt ons on the rear for about a year and haven't had a problem yet. No vibration

Felix 808 02-01-2013 10:31 PM

Well guys, thought I would update this. I figured having already painted the front spacers for that stealth black look, I might as well put them on. Been running them for a few weeks now & putting the car through it's paces http://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/drivingskid.gifwith zero trouble & I'm really liking the look of 20's all around. No vibration , no sling issues. :happydance:

Thank you all again for your comments :tiphat:

Good call going with 20mm all around!

mayday813 02-02-2013 11:13 PM

I've had the one piece 25 mm H&R DRM's on the rear for about 3k miles now with no problems whatsoever. I use them with my winter rim/tires. Make sure to torque the one piece spacers once again after about 50 miles after installation which entails removing the wheel once after the intial installation to retorque the spacers.
Without the spacers the narrower winter wheel/tire combination looks wierd in the rear.

NitrousZ34 02-03-2013 04:27 AM

Hey Rob! Sounds like your Z is coming along nicely
I just got my Z last week and I'm looking into getting spacers but I'm still kind of hesitant about going through with it. Where did you get your H&Rs from if i could ask?

How long have you had the spacers?
I've been on the same combination of Powertrix 20mm in front and 25mm in the rear along with thier SS coilovers for close 2 years now without any issues.

Did you make sure to retorque the spacers after the first 500 miles?
Also its best to always check or re torque the spacers if the wheels come off for any maintence etc.

Regardless, I would contact Charles and let him kno what you are experiencing and im sure he will help/take care of you in one way or another.
