trying to decide on wheel sizes

1 Attachment(s)
just got my 370z about two weeks ago and im looking at , some "petrol vengeance" wheels , i was looking at getting 20x8.5 in the front and 20x10 in the rear , do u guys think it will have an aggressive enough look , with the 370's wide rear flare out ? i dont want them too look to sunken in . or should i just start looking for 20's that come wider than 10 inches ? and if so can u guys throw out some suggestions of brands ?

Caravanshaka 06-12-2009 06:54 PM

The main factor for fitment are the offsets. Can you list the offsets that you are considering?

8.5 front is a little weak, the stock RAYS wheels with the sport package are 9 inch wide in the front...I would suggest going with that width in front if you can.

Argos 06-12-2009 07:37 PM

ummm what do u mean by offsets ?

nogoodname 06-12-2009 07:49 PM

offsets are where the hub of the wheel is located on the rim....... right???

9-9.5 fronts and 10-10.5 rears.....something like that

Argos 06-12-2009 07:57 PM

so what would be a good offset, i want the wheel as close to flush with the rear and front bumpers as possible , if i get 10.5 in the rear and 8.5 in the front (the rims i want only go 20 x 10.5 and 8.5 ) so i gotta get 8.5's in the front

this will explain offsets...if you do a search a couple people have posted calculators to give you a tool to calculate what offsets you want with what width wheels. Once the wheel width changes, the optimum offset changes as well.

nogoodname 06-12-2009 08:06 PM

the rears can go up to 12...... get 9.5 fronts

20X9.5____255-30-20
20X12_____305-25-20

that looks super good.....i dunno about offsets though

nogoodname 06-12-2009 08:11 PM

stock sizes are
fronts 18 x 8.0 with 225/50R18
rears 18 x 9.0 with 245/45R18

and for Sport with the BBK's
fronts 19 x 9.0 with 245/40R19
rears 19 x 10.0 with 275/35R19

Caravanshaka 06-12-2009 09:29 PM

and stock offsets on the sport package are:

front +47
rear +30

for reference, I ordered forgestars in the following sizes:

19x9 +24 offset front
19x10 +20 offset rear

this will bring the wheels out to be a little more flush with the fenders

nogoodname 06-12-2009 09:36 PM

^^ with ur specs, his should be

8.5 fronts (i prefer 9.5 but it's his Z) with +30

and rears 10.5 with +14

something is off here....lol

you try this with ur specs of 19x9 +24 offset front & 19x10 +20 offset rear
the stock specs are too sunk in.

Wheel Offset Calculator

Brazilbro 06-12-2009 09:43 PM

go 10in front and 11 out back

Rear with 10.5 should be +26 mm if you want to match the 19x10 +20
front with 9.5 would need +18 mm if you want to match the 19x9 +24..+20 would probably be pretty safe

nogoodname 06-12-2009 09:59 PM

wait a second, let me try again

for same outer postion

8.5 fronts would need +18 and inner clearance would be 12mm more....no lip probably

9.5 fronts would need +30 and inner clearence would drop 12mm

10.5 rears would need +26

Argos 06-12-2009 10:01 PM

lol it wasn't this complicated when i got my zenetti's for my g35 , i just went out and ordered 20x8.5 and 20x10 , iv been looking around and not many brands have 20 inch rims over 10.5 widths

Argos 06-12-2009 10:06 PM

ohh and another question i have is why , on the rear tire aspect ratio , do people get a smaller size ....wont that mess up the look/drive ? ie - 30 vs 25

front -255-30-20
rear - 305-25-20

nogoodname 06-12-2009 10:07 PM

go for 12 inch

remember that the G35 BBK's are not the same as the Z's BBK's...it's bigger bow

thats a good question, it's always like that..i got no answer...lol

every person that got rims on the G always got that...i was wondering the same thing as you

Argos 06-12-2009 10:24 PM

i think i will go for a 12 or at least 11.5 (usually like to go a half inch smaller to guarantee no rubbing) on the back , now i gotta start looking all over again took me two weeks to find ones i liked and in my price range , im kinda picky when it comes to my car , im sure u know exactly what i mean ;) , any good wheels sites to check out ?

nogoodname 06-12-2009 10:34 PM

i mainly just look at what the vendors got.

the forgedstars are pretty nice, they have a nice colour for any colour Z.

like piano black for a white z or a murdered out Z

titanium for blue and tone tone for greys.

360 rims are risky to get, that company almost went under......sevas rims have a bad rep.

modular concepts have nice rims, CF ones also

Argos 06-12-2009 10:39 PM

i wanted something with a deep lip and that mesh style , the BBS are nice but i dont even know if they make the sizes im now looking for plus i didnt wanna pay 6g's for rims

nogoodname 06-12-2009 10:42 PM

what colour is ur G by the way??

don't get the GT-30's....those have lips but the rims have been over used...too common and it's ugly to me....looks like toothpicks from hub to the rim....ha

Argos 06-12-2009 11:04 PM

lol , i got the dark grey color with the light grey/white interior , touring package and navi package no sport

nogoodname 06-12-2009 11:08 PM

nice, PG on Frost.....PG is the best one...

Argos 06-12-2009 11:31 PM

yea i love it , im just worried about the interior , never had suede before , plus since its such a light color , i find myself obsessing about who i let sit inside , haha . BTW now all u guys got me looking at are the BBS Lm's or the HRE 590r both really really expensive wheels

nogoodname 06-12-2009 11:37 PM

HRE are quite expensive, i dont even bother looking at them.

search for some volks rims, more affordable

front -255-30-20
rear - 305-25-20

The reasoning behind this is the second number in the tire size is going to be the sidewall height as a ratio of the width.

So, 255/30/20 = 26" diameter and 775 revs per mile
and 305/25/20 = 26" diameter and 776 revs per mile

The rear tire is nearly identical in overall diameter to the front, even though the sidewall height number is smaller.

if you want to compare tire sizes, use Tire size calculator

nogoodname 06-13-2009 10:32 AM

yea, it's height/width ratio

but if the fronts are 20in and the rear aswell.......i dont get how 255-30-20 ,305-25-20 are the same diameter...unless the wider tires are a bit taller

Argos 06-13-2009 11:15 AM

i kno the width is in millimeters but the diameter is in inches , that always messes me up , but i still dont understand why the hell people get a smaller aspect ratio for the rear

nogoodname 06-13-2009 11:29 AM

plug the values on the calculator, those sizes give the same diameter but the rear travel one mile more.......i dont get that....we really need tire tire sizes & offsets 101 here

Caravanshaka 06-13-2009 04:06 PM

That's the key, aspect ratio:

think of it as the sidewall height = (aspect ratio) x (width)

both wheels are 20 inch, so you want the same sidewall height on each to achieve the same overall diameter

for a 255/30, height = .30 x 255 = 76.5
for a 305/25, height = .25 x 305 = 76.5

hope that helps

nogoodname 06-13-2009 04:12 PM

i'm just not getting it right now........lol

i'm still not getting something....

haha, think of it as a percentage

25 series aspect ratio is going to have sidewall height 25% of the width of the tire

so a truck with 50 series will have 50% sidewall height :icon18:

nogoodname 06-13-2009 11:01 PM

ooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...... makes much more sense

forgestar... search for it... 18s are lightest and won't look as small in black or darker color... 19s are also plenty big when car is dropped

Argos 06-14-2009 01:18 PM

not planning on dropping the car , i dont want to mess up the ride feel and i already scrap everything when just everyday driving

nogoodname 06-14-2009 01:20 PM

^^ really....the G/Z is pretty high stock......the G never scrapped anything here.......driving in the dunes or what...lol.....

travisjb 06-14-2009 01:47 PM

this car is jacked up like a 4x4... need to drop

Argos 06-14-2009 04:56 PM

i live in south fl , i just noticed i scrape the bottom front end on almost every parking lot i drive out of , its mostly because of all the rain ditches i think . they make them pretty deep down here were about a meter below the water table , and we get tons of rain from june - nov (hurricane season). im not scraping the actual bumper , but the bottom of it

nogoodname 06-14-2009 05:00 PM

here, there no ditches like that, only in the old part of town....it's all sewers and manholes...

HRE Performance Wheels – Monoblok Series for Nissan GTR

Ok i am trying to figure this out for when i buy rims.
The above is what i like honestly. hre m45's.

should i just stick with 19" or go with the 20" and then maybe 19 up front?
I have the basic understanding of what offset is.

Are you guys saying if you have a lip you are more stable?
